A student must complete most (75%) of their classes each semester to retain financial aid.
A student only needs to complete and pass half their classes per year.
It is a financial aid formula to determine continued financial aid eligibility.

Absolutely. If you do not "officially" withdraw from a class, your grade becomes an E.
E's make it very difficult to retain good academic standing (SAP).
If a student withdraws from a class, it does not count against their GPA.
If a student withdraws from a class, it only counts against the number of classes completed each semester (SAP).
It is critical that students understand that the SAP process includes grades and completed classes.
