Maker Movement: Introductory Training to 3D Printing
The challenges of COVID-19 have affected all sectors of human activity. The responses include many citizen initiatives based on community-driven Digital Action (DA). Such actions, at local, national and international levels, act as significant catalysts for social change during a crisis.

HEIDI (coordinated by UCL Geography’s Extreme Citizen Science group) aims to improve the ability of Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) to support community driven knowledge enhancement and action, and promote their role in social change by enhancing staff and student expertise in community problem solving during the pandemic.

With 3D printing, fewer parts need outsourcing for manufacturing. 3D printing creates a lot less waste material for a single part and the materials used in 3D printing are generally recyclable, thereby offering outstanding sustainability benefits, while also avoiding supply chain issues. The main advantages of 3D printing are realized in its Speed, Flexibility, and Cost benefits.

The aim of the Maker Movement training session is to provide customised training opportunities to HE students who are asylum seekers or refugees, in order to upskill their DA methodology and improve their digital skills around the 3D printing.

The Maker Movement training session will take place at Lemon Park,1 Vasili Michaelide St, Latsia 2237, Nicosia.
