(Declaration of the International Forum for Agroecology, Nyéléni, Mali, February 27, 2015)What possibilities in art and community-centered agriculture contribute toward re-establishing dispossessed people’s relationship to land as a means to reclaiming the commons and undoing settler-colonial structures? First presented as a panel discussion for The Hemispheric Institute of Performance and Politics at New York University, A Connection to Power: On Art, Land, and Food Sovereignty is a workshop discussing art movements around indigenous land rights, black liberation, food justice, and art in the midst of climate change. Via questions, propositions, and activist actions, Grullon will consider how artistic practices including her own, are acts of self-defense responding to calls for social justice.
