In order to transform properties and communities from being water stressed to becoming water abundant, we have to start at the mindset level.

Current mindset makes us value only water that is imported and purchased from outside. For example piped water supplied by water agency, tanker water purchased by paying a hefty price.

However, the mindset change that is needed is to view all water - yes all types of water - all quality of water as a VALUABLE RESOURCE...not as a nuisance or waste. Whether or not the water becomes a nuisance or waste or a resource depends entirely on how we choose to MANAGE it.

We have been living with a water system that is designed to extract fresh water, use it and then dump the used water (by calling it wastewater). Over the years, cities have grown multiple fold, the water system kept stretching itself without anybody questioning how long can we carry on extracting using and dumping when we know that water source from where we extract does not grow like the cities. Anybody could have predicted that when we carry on like that, we will eventually run out of fresh water AND would surround ourselves with lot of polluted water that we chose to 'dump'.

Nature has bestowed a unique quality to water. It has made water redeemable, recoverable, rechargeable, reusable, recyclable. That's what nature does with water. It moves water upon, below and over the earth in a cycle so it keeps regenerating itself over and over again. Nature has been doing that for millions of years.

In time of water crisis, it would make sense for us to acknowledge the mistakes we collectively made in the past and learn from nature about how to correct that mistake. We need to make sure water is managed by leveraging its unique quality of being redeemable and regeneratable.

The good news is that it is possible to engineer ways to recover, recycle, reuse, regenerate water in whatever state it may be to whatever quality we may want for drinking or non drinking purpose. It is also affordable to do this. We just need to make it happen socially by recognizing that it is us as water users who have to take responsibility to implement water recycling solutions within our circle of influence and control and make way for new ways of owning and managing water.
