This is a user agreement to access the Makerspace @ Columbia. Please read it carefully:
Makerspace @ Columbia is a Columbia community hub and community resource. What you do in the makerspace affects the entire makerspace community. We ask that you bring a positive attitude to the community and treat other users with respect. This is a space for creation and collaboration. Any discrimination or harassment are grounds for immediate removal from the makerspace.
The makerspace is staffed by staff members and student superuser volunteers. We have the knowledge and skills to help you in the makerspace. Please realize that we are there to help the entire community, and that will sometimes mean putting other needs before yours. We have a schedule clearly posted for you to find training times and the hours of superusers. Please do not disturb superusers when they do not have hours posted. They are using the makerspace for their own projects, and that time is theirs, not yours. Similarly for staff members. The makerspace requires attention in many areas, and we cannot stop the flow of our work to instantly cater to your needs.
The makerspace is a “no fault” zone, meaning that you will not be blamed if equipment is damaged in the normal course of using it. In fact, we encourage you to notify staff and superusers when this happens. This will allow us to respond to it more rapidly.
However, any unauthorized access to equipment, dangerous misuse of equipment, misuse of the space, negligence in cleaning your workspace, disrespect of staff or superusers, disrespect of other users, unauthorized taking of equipment, or any other event deemed grievously inappropriate by staff or superusers will result in removal from the space.
If a staff member or superuser asks you to leave for any of these reasons, you must comply immediately. At a later time, you will be contacted to review the situation and discuss your further use of the makerspace. Until a decision is made otherwise by staff members, you are not allowed in the makerspace.
