Reflect on the diversity and inclusivity of your program. Are you focusing on the needs of students as learners and global citizens, rather than only as artists? Have your vision and vocabulary evolved to reflect a changing society? Have you implemented a curriculum that validates the framing of mirrors and windows for students to hear, see, and experience the world, cultures, music, and education in more than one way? These opportunities are crucial for acceptance, development, and unity.

In this session, attendees will examine strategies for diversity, equity, and inclusion, infused with social emotional learning, that explore ideas for a program’s vision to include all stakeholders while promoting the education of the whole child in a collaborative climate. Attendees will reflect on personal and programmatic limitations and strengths to enhance teaching, collaborate genuinely with colleagues and community, and engage all learners in face-to-face, hybrid, and remote formats. They will study recent data on student and educator diversity. They will examine language barriers. They will experience exemplar lessons and activities that promote the engagement of all learning styles and discover innovative methods to introduce music, content, cultures, and collaboration to learners of all subject areas, ages, and abilities. Attendees will hear from learners and leaders who will share their limiting learning experiences and heightened understanding of cultural diversity. Questions for reflection and suggestions for implementation will be offered. Resources will be provided to promote an inclusive learning environment throughout education.
