This item is the full, January 13, 1866 edition of the illustrated newspaper Harper's Weekly. The cover image on this newspaper is a large illustration of Edwin Booth, who had just returned to the stage after a nine month hiatus due to the assassination of Lincoln by his brother in April of 1865. A nice biography of Edwin is contained on the bank of the cover page.
This full edition also contains several other nice illustrations including a full page illustration of "Mounted Messengers Attacked by Indians on the Plains", three drawings of various stations on London's Metropolitan Underground, a full paged map of the state of Alabama, portraits of Mexican officials including President Benito Juarez, General Jose Carvajal, and minister Matias Romero (who had attended the trial of the Lincoln conspirators in 1865). The centerfold of the paper, taking up two pages, is a depiction of New York City's Metropolitan Fire Department.
In its closed form, the newspaper measures 17" x 12".
The paper is 156 years old and has understandable condition issues especially on the edges of the pages. Please consult the images below carefully to judge its condition for yourself. While single pages of other Harper's Weekly are also up for auction, this is the only complete edition and has a great illustration of Edwin Booth on the cover.
