2019-2020--Battle of the Books Gr. 3 & 4:                          Club & Field Trip Permission Slip
Grade 3 & 4: Enrichment Club & Possible Field Trip (Open to all interested 3rd & 4th grade HTS students.)
Lunch Bunch Club: FRIDAYS during their lunch period in Mrs. Demarest's classroom
(It may be easier for students to pack lunch on these day but this is not mandatory.)

Field Trip Date:  Tuesday, May 19, 2020 (We will not know who will qualify for the trip until April/May. This will be based on a class competition UNLESS I am able to bring an unlimited amount of teams. In that case, everyone will get to compete.)
Time of the event: 4:00-7:30 p.m.
Place: Oxford St. School in Belvidere
Transportation: Parents transport children to and from event.


Special Instructions:  This club is completely optional. However, students who join should do so with the commitment and full intention of reading every book on the list. BOOKS WILL BE PROVIDED FOR THE STUDENTS.

Permission Slip due by Monday, September 30. First Book Club Lunch will be held on Friday, October 4.

Is your child unsure of joining? My advice to all students is sign up on a trial basis. In January, they can remove themselves from the book club if they feel it is too much reading. I will consult with each student at that time to review their completion of books to date. Each student is require to complete all reading assignments but giving it a few months trial is always an option. Even if they stop in January, they can give it another try next school year.

Lunch Bunch Club Overview
Battle of the Books is meant to challenge students by reading books they may not be exposed to within the core curriculum. It is a completely optional club. However, those who choose to join should do so with full commitment to completely read every book. All book titles have been chosen by the WCCSE (Warren County Consortium for Student Enrichment). HTS cannot edit the book title lists.

Students can be removed from the Lunch Bunch Club due to: behavior, failure to attend on days they are in school (not due to absences), failure to complete assigned readings. I have engaged my child in a conversation about these scenarios.

Competition Overview
Students who are selected for The Battle of the Books competition will compete on a team to represent HTS. They will compete against students from other schools in Warren County. This competition will require them to read every book title to be prepared to answer the trivia questions.
My child has permission to attend the competition if they are selected. (5/19/20)
