2021 Upside Aerial Spring Showcase Performer Questionnaire & Information
Please read the information below and complete the questionnaire below by March 1st to confirm your spot in our Spring Showcase! (If not received by March 1st, we'll assume you've changed your mind about performing.)

Ideally, you should be working on choreographing and rehearsing a minimum of one hour per week. Options:

1. PRIVATE/SEMI-PRIVATE LESSONS
2. GROUP CLASS: use the last 20 minutes of group class (Please feel free to remind your instructor if you need this time!)
3. OPEN STUDIO: Fridays at 2:30pm & Sunday mornings at 9am: https://www.upsideaerial.com/bookings-checkout/open-studio
4. PRIVATE RIG POINT RENTALS: https://www.upsideaerial.com/bookings-checkout/rig-point-rental
5. POP-UP OPEN STUDIOS: we've been brainstorming ways to give you more practice time options. If a class isn't full 24 hours ahead, we can offer available rig points for rehearsal time. Please use ear buds and quietly rehearse on your own so as not to interfere with the class in session. Check the app/website frequently for these Pop-up Open Studio offerings on weekday evenings and weekends.

AUDITIONS: Mark your calendars for the WEEK OF APRIL 5TH!! That week, we will have in-class "auditions" for the showcase. Don't worry: it's not a real audition! It's just dedicated class time for you to show us where you are with your piece: you'll get helpful feedback and support from your instructors & fellow Upsiders. By audition week, you should be pretty much finished choreographing your piece and ready to spend the final 3 weeks before dress rehearsal practicing and fine-tuning. We will also be very honest with you...if it looks like you're not prepared enough to be safe and ready for the Spring Showcase, we'll plan to have you work toward the Fall Showcase instead. (Safety is ALWAYS our top priority!)

COSTUME & MAKEUP PLANNING: Below are some resources to help you with this. Please be sure your costume is apparatus-friendly (i.e. doesn't have buckles, big gems, or poky headpieces). If you plan to wear a leotard, be sure to wear tights (footless, transition, or stirrup) to protect the legs. Also, given you will probably spend some time upside down during your performance: please check your costume for potential wardrobe malfunctions, keeping in mind that you will probably have a bright spotlight shining directly on your butt or crotch at some point during your performance. 🙂 Suggested resources:

2. https://www.dancewearsolutions.com/
3. https://www.discountdance.com/
4. https://www.bdancewear.com/
5. Makeup consultations are available from 2 Upsiders who are professional makeup artists! You can reach out to James at james@jamesdoddartistry.com, 919-320-3192, or www.jamesdoddartistry.com. You can contact Yakari at yakari.rosales@gmail.com or www.instagram.com/rosestudiomakeup.

Performer Name (as you wish to be introduced during the showcase) *
YOUR PERFORMANCE MUSIC: Your song must be available on YouTube Music (NOT plain YouTube) since that's how we'll stream the showcase playlist. Copyright laws do not allow you to send us audio files of copyrighted music. Just go to https://music.youtube.com/ and search for your song. Then include the YouTube Music link to it below. This will ensure we have the exact version you want. Please choose a song that is less than 4 minutes long: we can always fade the music out early if needed. (It's okay if we have just a few performers go longer, but since we have so many performers, shorter than 4 minutes is ideal.) *
PERFORMER BIO: Tell us about yourself (e.g. What do you do? How long have you been taking circus arts classes? What has circus arts training done for you emotionally/physically? Is there anything you want the audience to know about you or your performance?) Michelle will use this bio to introduce you during aerial fabric/apparatus changes between performances, so please give her enough juicy details  to keep the audience engaged for a minute or 2!  🙂 *
Dress rehearsals will be held Friday, April 30th between 4:30pm and 7:30pm and Sunday, May 2nd between 1pm and 4pm. Please specify if you have a preferred time/day for your dress rehearsal: (once we receive everyone's responses, we'll send out a dress rehearsal schedule) *

Showcases will be held Friday, May 7th and Saturday, May 8th (6 to 8pm). Please specify if you have a preferred night for your showcase performance: *

We will have professional videographers from Digital Smart Studios filming performances the night of the showcase. (See sample below.)  Would you like a professionally edited video of your performance (~$40 depending on your preferences)? Check all that apply. (Videos will be distributed on thumb drives.) *

Approximately how many guests are you planning to bring so we can plan for social distancing and refreshments? (Tickets are available for purchase now at www.upsideaerial.com/events for $10 + tax/fees and will be sold ONLINE ONLY. Kids 5 and under are free. You don't need a ticket for yourself on the night you perform, but we hope you'll get a ticket and show your support for the other performers on night 2!) PLEASE NOTE: Upside is primarily an adult-centered studio. If you plan on bringing children, please be aware that some music will contain profanity, and there will be pole dance performances. All performances (silks, pole, lyra, & trapeze) will be presentations of what we do as an art form. *
Due to the size and scale of the Spring Showcases, we need help! Maybe you want to help with just one specific thing or be more deeply involved as a volunteer on our Showcase Planning committee. Check any areas you are interested in helping with:
