Drive Thru Bethlehem (DTB) is Saturday December 9 from 6:00pm - 9:00pm. Set up and Actor Arrival times are yet to be determined but often begin at 9am in the morning for set up and 3:30p in the afternoon for actors.
DTB is a live-scene drive through telling of the Christmas Story. In each of the 6 scenes "silent actors" dress up in costume and act as characters while visitors from the community travel the route through time in our church parking lot. Several scenes feature live animals including a camel! There are opportunities to volunteer as an actor, a setup/tear down crew member, as well as a behind the scenes team member. Below are some details about each actor position. and some important times of which to be aware.
Actor Descriptions
Ceasar & His Guards greet cars as they arrive informing them of the requirement for all to return to the town of their birth for the census. Ceasar is seated on a very tall platform. You should be comfortable with heights. Guards should be ready to stand for 30min. There is a fire pit to tend.
Mary & Joseph There are 2 sets of Mary and Joseph for each shift. At the inn they are standing with a donkey talking to the Inn Keeper. You should be able to stand for 30min. The nativity allows for more flexible arrangement.
Shepherds & Travelers are all dressed similarly in robes. Travelers roam while shepherds gape at the angels and tend to sheep. Positions are seated, standing, and roaming. Please let us know if you must be seated. There are 2 fire pits to tend in these scenes.
The Angels are dressed in white and stand on platforms. We utilize bright lighting and a smoke machine to add drama to the scene. You should be able to hold your arms up and stand for 30 minutes at a time. One angel in each shift will be assigned to tending the smoke machine.
The Wise Persons are surrounded by a large tent a fire and the camel. They keep watch over a fire and are seated/standing near the camel searching for the star. This can be a standing or a seated position. Some else will be tending to the camel.
