Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program Faculty Mentor Application
The Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program (UROP) seeks to cultivate research partnerships between SJSU faculty and undergraduate students who are first-time frosh, new transfers, and 2nd year students. UROP aims to integrate students into university life academically and socially, while providing them with structured support from peers, mentors, and faculty.

WE ARE RECRUITING FACULTY RESEARCH PROJECTS FOR AY 2023-2024

Would you like help getting a new research project started or expediting an existing project? Do you want to gain experience mentoring undergraduates? In August 2023, we will be launching our third UROP cohort. Our first two years were a huge success--we would love for you to become part of this journey.

We are now accepting research project submissions for the upcoming academic year!

PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS:
UROP is open to first and second year students, and community college transfer students who are not only learning about the institution, but beginning their exploratory process into research. Beginning in September, you will have the opportunity to interview and select the students you wish to invite on your project.

Students will participate in the program for the entire academic year (i.e. August-May) and will be provided the following:
- UROP students will enroll in a year-long curriculum (4 total credits; EDLD 10 in fall, EDLD 11 in spring) where they will learn: (1) intro to research (e.g., what is research, how to review literature, philosophy of research, research ethics, etc.); (2) professional development (e.g., career exploration, cover letter/CVs, establishing a digital presence, job interviewing); (3) critical consciousness (e.g., power and inequity in research, positionality); and (4) research methods and presentation skills.
- Eligibility to work up to 10 hours/week with their faculty mentor (wage TBD)
- Four elective units (which also contribute to the Educational Leadership Transformative Leadership minor)
- Dedicated support from trained peer connections student mentors

WHAT FACULTY WILL RECEIVE:
