ATTENTION STUDENTS & PARENTS - Please fill out the below form in its entirety.  This will be the students contract for the year and one that has VERY important information in it.  I realize this form is long but please know that everything within this form is something that I have experienced over my career.  The expectations within this form are ones that will be followed until the end of the season.  It is VERY IMPORTANT that you (the student) and you (the parent/guardian) fill this form out together.  There is no "student" section or "parent" section to this form.  The entire form is to be reviewed by both the student AND parent.

I understand that I must fill out a Uniform Contract form at the beginning of the season and follow ALL rules of that contract. *
Form sent out at a later date
I understand that I must order new band shoes for $35 (new members only) *
I understand that all events, times, and up to date changes are located within the 'CALENDARS' tab at gjsdmusic.org *
POINT OF NO RETURN DATES *
Please list any mini camp days, band camp days, football game days & competition days that you MUST miss PLUS the reason for missing.  These are for reasons such as vacations already planned, family weddings, or weekend already planned.  For example:  Saturday, October 8th - Cousin's wedding.  If you don't need to miss any of these days please type "None" - If you need to check the full season schedule please visit https://www.gjsdmusic.org/calendars.html
I understand that I will be expected to attend all events on dates that are NOT listed above. *
Exceptions include emergencies and a death in the family or at the discretion of the director.
I understand that I must inform Mr. Pfeil if I will be late to or will miss rehearsals/games/competitions/ANY marching band event.  I understand that this must be done via REMIND.  IMPORTANT - THIS WILL ALSO INCLUDE ANY MEMBER IN OTHER SPORTS.  Best rule to remember - if you will miss for ANY reason you MUST text Mr. Pfeil.   *
This is EXTREMELY IMPORTANT.  Parents - I am fully responsible for your children at all times when we have rehearsals and trips.  Imagine if I didn't know where they were AND YOU didn't know where they were.  Who is then responsible?  This will not be taken lightly and MUST occur at all times!
I understand that failure to inform the director of tardiness or missed rehearsals/games/competitions/events will result in some form of discipline. *
At the discretion of the director and staff
I understand that homework, jobs, other sports, studying, etc. are NOT acceptable excuses for missing rehearsals, games, or competitions and will be considered unexcused absences.   *
You are making the decision to sign-up for an extra-curricular activity.  Therefore, we expect you to fully commit to that activity.  We have everything in place for you to make this decision (dates, schedules, etc.).  If you feel that you cannot PRIORITIZE your time with this extra-curricular activity then it's best to simply not join.  While we value the importance of education, school work and jobs, we also need you to understand that every student in every role of the marching band is important and needed at every rehearsal/game/competition.
I understand that unexcused absences from rehearsals/games/competitions/events will result in some form of discipline. *
At the discretion of the director and staff
I understand that tardiness to rehearsal, tardiness to the field, and excused absences can result in physical punishment that will ultimately benefit the member and that this punishment will be given out by the director and/or student leaders. *
For example - students may be asked to do lunges or some other sort of physical activity as a punishment for being late but in turn will make their legs stronger for marching.
I understand that Mr. Pfeil and staff members will make the decision on who performs and when based on attendance and learning of the drill/show, *
This is for student safety on the field.  If a student misses an entire week of rehearsal and therefore misses important drill changes they could possibly injure someone on the field if they don't know where they are going.
I understand that the band will dismiss after every rehearsal, game, competition, and trip and that it is mandatory to stay until the end of dismissal.  Students not who leave dismissal without informing Mr. Pfeil will result in discipline. *
Parents - please communicate emergencies or extreme circumstances where students would need to leave before dismissal.
I have texted @trojanmb to 81010 in order to sign-up for Remind *
MANDATORY for all students.  I must be able to contact the students at all times if needed.  PARENTS - we highly recommend that you join as well to stay informed of rehearsal times, arrival times back home, and important information.
I understand that there will be $50 in MANDATORY ads/patrons due for our home show and that they will be due by Friday, October 1st, 2021.  I understand that if I am not able to raise the $50 via ads or patrons then I will need to simply pay the $50. *
Parents - this money helps the band boosters offset the cost of judges at our home show.  We can then make more money at the show to in turn help the students.  Ads/patron forms will be online by June 5th.  Please start trying ASAP.  If you would like to simply save that would be $3.00/week starting June 1st.  I understand that failure to submit this mandatory $50 will result in a graduation/fundraiser hold as well as an indoor suspension until the money is paid.
I understand that I must fully complete ALL competitive AND non-competitive Marching Band commitments in order to join an indoor ensemble *
I understand that if I quit the marching band for ANY reason, that I will be unable to attend ANY field trip held by the Marching Band *
I understand that if I have 'D' or lower in ANY ONE of my classes that I will be required to attend a MANDATORY study hall in the band room after school until 3:30 every Wednesday until the grade becomes a 'C' or higher. *
The next section of this form is to be completed by the PARENT(S) OR GUARDIAN(S).
I understand what my child is signing up for and agree to the expectations listed above. *
Please do not allow your child to sign-up for something that you'll ultimately allow them to quit.
I understand that all rehearsals, dismissals and clean-up times are closed to parents/guardians. *
Booster announcements, etc. will be allowed when needed.
I understand that my child will not be dismissed from the school until AT LEAST 15-30 minutes after the scheduled rehearsal time and/or return time. *
For example: if rehearsal is scheduled 3:00-5:30 students will be dismissed sometime between 5:45 & 6:00.  This all depends on how quickly the students clean-up and put stuff away.  EVERYONE in the band will have a clean-up/dismissing job.  The staff will wait until all jobs are complete to dismiss the students.  The quicker they clean/organize = The quicker they are dismissed.  Parents - it is your choice if you decide to arrive for pick-up 10-15 before a rehearsal ends.  This will usually result in 30-45 minutes of waiting.
I understand that Mr. Pfeil will send out a REMIND message when the band pulls into the parking lot from a trip, competition or game. *
Parents - this will allow you to see the text, depart for the school and get there right around the time of dismissal.  PLEASE be diligent in getting to the school in time to pick up your child.  I need to stay at the school until all students are picked up and there are times I have waited close to an hour after dismissal waiting for parents.  CARPOOLS work great during the season if you are able to set one up with other parents.  I understand emergencies happen and if so, please communicate those with me.
I understand that I must be a board approved volunteer to work at fundraisers and to be in direct contact with our students. *
Contact me if you are interested in becoming a board approved volunteer
I understand that if I have an issue or concern I should contact Mr. Pfeil 30 minutes before a rehearsal or after the full band dismisses.   *
I understand my child must have a physical in order to be a part of the Marching Band.   *
Free physicals will be given by the school district and dates/times will be communicated by Mr. Pfeil through REMIND and through social media.
I understand that if my child has 3 or more "F's" in school they will be ineligible to perform on Friday/Saturday nights.  (they can still practice just not perform) *
I understand my child must sign a school district drug consent form in order to be a part of the program. *
