Basically it is a fun day out with your pony or horse - something we've all been missing!
Oz Trec was introduced in Australia by the Geelong & District Carriage Drivers Club. It started in 1970's France as a ridden activity and some years later the British Driving Society incorporated the principle of ridden Trec into a driven activity and Driven Trec began. It is now enjoyed in many countries around the world including the UK, Canada and the USA.
Oz Trec tests horse-and-driver
combinations through a range of challenges, rather than focusing on one style
or discipline. Safety is a huge priority. It is suitable for all breeds and
sizes of horses/ponies along with all types of carriages and all levels of drivers.
Just think of a bit of pleasure driving, showing, CDE, dressage and handy mount all thrown into one. Points are gained or lost depending on the phase of the competition with the highest score determining the winner of each section.
There is no cantering on any part of the course and the activities section are untimed. If you want to skip something that's totally fine.
And most importantly - you can't be eliminated UNLESS you canter!
You can find more details on the ACDS website via this link
TRECking must haves:
All participants must have the following;
- Helmet
that meets ACDS requirements
- High
visibility top – extra points for extra High Vis
In the afternoon we have some more
training activities organised. Sue Plath, who was one of the organisers for our
earlier Training Wheels weekends (Mr Plod and Noddy), will be on hand to see
how your dressage skills are coming along. You will have the opportunity to
drive ACDS Test BB (the same test as we used for Noddy) and receive feedback
from Sue.
You will also be able to drive the
marathon obstacles at your leisure. Because this is a Training Day there won’t be any designated gates. They are there for you to practise. BUT NO
CANTERING!!
