Global Ties Arizona is pleased to be hosting a U.S. Department of State Iraqi Young Leaders Exchange Program, which will bring 20 Iraqi high-school aged students and 2 Iraqi adult mentors to Phoenix from July 9-22, 2024. Iraqi participants will take part in organized programming by Global Ties Arizona (Monday through Friday, 8:30 am - 5 pm) during the program, and will spend weeknights and weekends with host families. We are looking for welcoming host families excited about the opportunity to expand their families' horizons,

A host family extends a warm and inviting home environment to the visiting high school student from Iraq from July 9-22, offering not just accommodation, but also emotional support, guidance, and friendship throughout their stay. They embrace the student as a member of their family, introducing them to local customs, traditions, and daily life, fostering cultural exchange and understanding. From sharing meals together to exploring the community, the host family creates a nurturing environment where the student feels valued, safe, and empowered to embrace their educational and cultural experience abroad.

We are looking for host families who can:
  • offer a private bedroom to the visiting student. 
  • showcase your hospitality by providing Halal-friendly meals (weekdays breakfast and dinner, weekends all meals).
  • provide transportation to the program location from Monday through Friday. 
    • Host families residing within 20-25 minutes of central Phoenix or that commute each day are ideal.
  • share the richness of American culture while learning from the experiences and perspectives of our Iraqi guests.
  • Adults (over 18 years old) must complete a background check.
Upon submission of the below application and approval, you will be contacted by a member of the GTAZ staff to conduct a home visit. After successful completion of these steps, adults in the household will need to complete a background check. A host family orientation will be held at the end of June or just prior to the students' arrival.

Currently, Global Ties AZ can confirm a $100 Amazon Gift Card and $100 Fry's Food Stores Gift Card to host families per student hosted.
