Capitol Connector Project
The City of Charleston, in partnership with Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and West Virginia Department of Transportation, Division of Highways (WVDOH) is seeking input on their project to enhance the Kanawha Blvd. Walk and Bikeway (US) Route 60 (Kanawha Blvd. and Greenbrier Street) Charleston. Below, please find a summary of the project as well as instructions for commenting and how to find more information.
The project consists of a reduction of lanes and partial removal of a segmented median to allow for an expanded pedestrian and cyclist zones along the roadway and plan to include signal modifications for safety and accessibility. The project begins at Magic Island, on Charleston’s West Side and continues east to the base of the 35th Street Bridge for approximately 3.25 miles. Additionally, 0.25 miles of Greenbrier Street will receive safety upgrades to allow for better connectivity between the East End Community of Charleston and the State Capitol Complex.
