6th Grade Visual Art - Fine Arts Elective Choice 2020-2021
Please remember that our fine arts electives are a full year commitment and they meet every day. We ask students to remain a full year in the fine arts elective they pick.  

We have a limited number of spots, 75, available for Visual Art.  All students wanting an opportunity to take Visual Art must complete this form by January 29th.

In an effort to ensure students with a passion for art are more likely to have a spot, we have an optional hands on portion of the application.  Mr. Fruge will go over the optional hands on portion instructions during Art class the week of January 20th. These activities are also explained at the bottom of this form.  Students choosing to complete the optional portion must turn it into Mrs. Smith in the student suite by January 29th. The hands on portion of this application is to provide a way for students to demonstrate their current understanding and interest in growing as a visual artist. There are not prerequisite skills for 6th grade Visual Art.  All students are encouraged to register regardless of previous art experience. Please come to the student suite for the paper needed to complete the hands on portion.

If less than 75 students complete the hands on portion of the application by the 29th; those students will be enrolled in the course, and all other applicants that did not complete the hands on portion by the 29th will be entered into a lottery for the remaining seats.  If more than 75 students complete the application and hands on portion by the 29th, all applicants will be entered into a lottery.

Responses to these questions and the art submissions do not hinder students from being accepted into the course, but are used to gather data around the artistic foundation and understanding that our students are entering the 6th Grade course with.  Mr. Fruge will be available from 3:00 to 3:30 on Monday, January 27th to answer any questions or assist with the optional hands on portion. We will notify parents by February 5th to let you know if your student will be in Art or their second choice.

OPTIONAL - HANDS ON PORTION
The hands on portion of this application is to provide a way for students to demonstrate their current understanding and interest in growing as a visual artist.  By taking on these tasks you are putting forth extra effort to show both your interest in the course and commitment to grow as an artist. Your answers/artwork do not affect your placement in 6th Grade Visual Art, but serve as a marker of your investment and interest in joining 6th Grade Art, and are used to provide visual feedback on your knowledge, understanding, and aptitude of artistic concepts from 5th Grade. Please see Mr. Fruge for the paper needed to complete the hands on portion.  


Task #1 - Use pen to complete a CONTINUOUS LINE DRAWING of your hand.
Task #2 - Using pencils, create VALUE DRAWINGS of two of your facial features from OBSERVATION (eyes, ear, nose, mouth).
Task #3 - Use colored pencils to create a PATTERN in a COMPLIMENTARY color scheme.
