Volunteers have been an essential part of our repair and regeneration efforts after the CZU Lightning Complex fire burned through Pie Ranch in August of 2020. We welcome volunteers onto the land Tuesdays from 1:00-4:00pm, Thursdays from 9:00am to 12:00pm, and on the third Saturday of the month. This form is for Thursday Morning Only. We so appreciate you!
The types of jobs we do on volunteer days depends on what needs to get done at that point in the season. Volunteers help with planting, weeding, harvests, culling, mulching, and so much more. There is also maintenance work to be done— cleaning up areas that have been damaged by the wildfire, removing debris and invasive species, and renovating living and working spaces for staff. The majority of our volunteer opportunities are hard but gratifying physical labor on the farm. Most jobs require heavy lifting, squatting, bending, lots of walking, and a full day out in the sun, wind, rain, and other coastal weather.
Be ready for your volunteer shift by bringing the following gear with you to Pie Ranch:
- Water bottle
- Sun hat
- Sunscreen
- Work clothes (ones you don’t mind getting dirty or worn out)
- Sturdy shoes for field work
- Gloves
- Snacks
- Mask (optional)
If you forget something, we do have a modest selection of rain boots, water bottles, jackets, and sunscreen to help in a pinch. Park in the designated, clearly signed parking sections, and walk up the road to the farm office for check-in.
Upon arrival at the farm office, you will be given waivers to sign (if you haven't already), and will be oriented to the ranch, and be given guidance on what you'll be doing that day.

Otherwise, we cannot guarantee that we will have any volunteer work for you. It is really important to planning our day.
