AVID’s mission is to close the opportunity gap by preparing all students for college readiness and success in a global society.
What is AVID?
AVID is an academic, regularly scheduled elective class based on writing as a tool of learning, inquiry method, and collaborative grouping. The three main components of the program are:
• academic instruction,
• tutorial support,
• and motivational activities.
The AVID Student Profile

-Average to High Test Scores
-2.0-3.5 GPA
-College Potential with Support
-Desire and Determination
Meets One or More of the Following Criteria
-First to Attend College
-Historically Underserved in 4-year Colleges
-Low Income
-Special Circumstances
AVID students will: (1) participate in extra-curricular activities, (2) take Cornell notes, (3) visit many colleges, (4) learn with college tutors, (5) develop strategies for success, (6) become a leader, (7) do community service, (8) apply to colleges and scholarships, (9) research different careers, and (10) HAVE FUN!
AVID students must: maintain a satisfactory grade point average, (2) have a good attendance record,(3) have appropriate classroom behavior, (4) take rigorous courses for college, (5) work hard, and (6) WANT TO GO TO COLLEGE!
