Rider Support:
Do you need financial or equipment support in order to join us on the Team?
The West Mountain Bike Team is committed to providing an accessible program for middle-school (“devo”) and high-school athletes. With that goal in mind, the team has set aside limited financial and equipment resources to help riders who might otherwise not be able to participate. Where the West Team cannot meet the needs of an athlete, the Team will attempt to connect athletes and their parents with other community resources.

Our family has the means to provide a mountain bike, bike helmet, eye protection, uniform, and basic bike maintenance equipment (pump, spare tire, patch kit, etc.) by the time the season starts.

(Don't hesitate to reach out to West coaches for equipment advice!)
*
Our Family has the means to pay for the NICA league ($360 for HS, or $300 for 7th/8th Jr DEVO) and West Team athlete dues ($200), as well as the West team uniform (~$100).

*
Our family does not have the means to pay for the fees and/or the uniform and/or the required equipment and we would be interested in learning more about how we can apply for equipment support through Trek and other sources.
Clear selection

The opportunity for riders to participate on the West MTB Team is made possible by parental volunteer support. Team management, coaching, and all other roles conducted by parents are conducted without financial compensation and there is an expectation that parents contribute a minimum of 15 hours of volunteer time, per athlete, every season. Please let us know how you intend to support the team in the year to come.
Our family is able to provide transportation for our rider to practices and races.
*
If there is space in our vehicle, we are willing to allow other riders or coaches to carpool with us.
*
As parents, we can help set up/break down the Pitzone at team races.
*
We can bring potluck items to race weekends.
*
We can be present on race days to volunteer in other ways as needed.
*
We can volunteer for trail maintenance sessions during the season.
*
Other ways we intend to support the team through volunteer efforts:
*
Rider Code of Conduct
Parents and Riders - Please carefully read through the following to support a safe and fun bike season.
I understand that bikers must yield to runners, hikers, horses and wildlife. Downhill Riders must always yield to uphill Traffic.  I will stop on the side of the trail instead of riding off-trail so that I keep single-track, single-track.
*
Required
When descending- I agree to always ride in control, and be especially cautious around blind corners and in heavily travelled areas. I further agree to execute smooth braking to avoid skidding so I do not create speed bumps.
*
Required
If someone is kind enough to let me pass by - I will pass safely and always say something polite.  When passing from behind, I will give verbal notice in advance.
*
Required
I will RSVP on TeamSnap every Sunday for the upcoming week of practices so coaches can plan ride groups and ride leaders. In special cases, I will contact my coach by text.  I understand that I may not be able to practice if I show up without a RSVP.
*
Required
I will maintain my bike regularly, bring water and a snack to every practice, wear a helmet and eye protection when I am on my bike.
*
Required
If I go into public places with members of the team, I will be well behaved and respectful, and represent my fellow team members in a positive way.
*
Required
I will be mindful of others on the team, respectful of differences, and try to be inclusive and help ensure the safety and welfare of my teammates.
*
Required
When meeting in parking lots before rides, I will gather off to the side, out of the way of traffic so others can use the parking lot. I will keep showing off my sick tricks to a tasteful minimum.
*
Required
At group rides I will follow coach and ride leaders instructions, follow suggested ride plan, and stay with my appropriate group. I will not depart practice without letting my ride leader know.
*
Required
I agree to use clean language all of the time unless I am being chased by a bear, or I hit a tree.
*
Required
I agree to NICA’s policy of no drugs or alcohol, no tobacco or vaping and understand that I can be removed from the team and/or disqualified from racing.
*
Required
I will always be kind, cool and respectful to other teammates, competitors, race officials, and other trail users.
