You’re invited! The Singing Network in Ljubljana, Slovenia - Europa Cantat, 16-25 July 2021
A brief overview...

Europa Cantat (https://europacantat.jskd.si/), one of the largest, non-competitive choral festivals worldwide, is taking place in Ljubljana, Slovenia, 16-25 July 2021. Held only once every three years, this is a musical event not to be missed. Best of all, any choir or individual, amateur - professional, interested in participating, can do so!

Choirs/vocal ensembles, individual professionals (conductors, composers) and choral singing enthusiasts are invited to join in over 100 choral events held throughout the vibrant and historic city of Ljubljana (https://bit.ly/2U4x4Jw).

The Singing Network (http://www.singingnetwork.ca/) co-founders, having attended previous Europa Cantat festivals (Torino, Italy; Pécs, Hungary; Tallinn, Estonia), want to share this experience with more of our Canadian choral colleagues and music enthusiasts. Moreover, Ki/Jan Adams and Andrea Rose visited Ljubljana in 2019 to perform a reconnaissance mission and to meet with Europa Cantat 2021 organizers. We left there with fond memories and great anticipation of our next visit with friends and choral colleagues in July 2021!

In addition to the festival’s main components - concerts, workshops, daily open air singing, and other special events - Europa Cantat 2021 has created a new opportunity - VoxBazaar -  to showcase international choirs/vocal ensembles and to promote choral composers. Once we have our roster of Canadian choirs/vocal ensembles and composers, The Singing Network will develop a series of special performances, presentations, and social events to be enjoyed by all participants and audiences throughout the festival. We will be joining other international participants in the creation of this unique and dedicated site designed for musical and cultural exchange.

In addition, The Singing Network will be developing a unique study-tour program for individuals who want to participate in this truly extraordinary international choral event as conductors, composers, choral leaders, musical/choral enthusiasts, and students - undergraduate/graduate.The study tour will include participation in self-selected concerts and workshops as well as additional festival events, sightseeing tours, and guided experiences of Slovenian cuisine… and, of course, wines, beers and ciders!

The capital of Slovenia, Ljubljana is one of the hidden gems of Europe. Picturesque and bursting with Old World character, the city developed around the curving Ljubljanica River with Jože Plečnik designed bridges and embankments densely scattered with markets and outdoor cafes. Festival venues are in the city centre, providing participants the opportunity to enjoy the many charms of Ljubljana alongside world class music making. Amazing art, unique architecture, cuisine, cultural heritage, charming streets, galleries and museums, stunning scenery, and pristine environment - all combine to make Ljubljana “a small capital city with a big soul.” Take a stroll around Ljubljana with this 360-degree virtual sightseeing walk (https://bit.ly/3evJbce).

The Singing Network is working with a travel agent in Ljubljana to book accommodations, ground transportation, and tours that will be available by option. Flights to and from Ljubljana will be the responsibility of the participant. However, upon arrival at the airport, our Canadian delegation will be well looked after by The Singing Network organizers.
