Poets Caravan Application Form
Are you interested in participating in Planet Earth Poetry's Poets Caravan project? We have used up our existing grant funding for this project and are not actively filming currently, but are open to adding poets to the map if someone comes to our attention who is an excellent fit for the project and we are able to source funding for the addition.

Being part of the Poets' Caravan means doing a professionally filmed poetry reading, which will be added to our map of Vancouver Island poets along with a text version of the poems (map available here: https://earth.google.com/earth/d/1BbRGfImcJ3Kh6rF4CUW0kuqmd0jn-Y_B?usp=sharing). Poets who are chosen to participate will receive a reader's fee. By participating, you give Planet Earth Poetry permission to publish that footage online and possibly re-use it for promotional purposes at a later date, and/or make it available to broadcast media.

At this time, participation is open only to practicing poets who have a certain amount of publishing/performing experience (see below), and live on Vancouver Island or the Gulf Islands. Please be aware that this is a large ongoing project, and we will only be contacting poets if/when we are ready and able to film them. We will not be able to provide responses to every poet who applies. The number of poets we can include is impacted by our funding and also by constantly changing COVID-19 restrictions, so please be patient!

** IMPORTANT NOTE** Exceptions to the criteria below may be made for poets who self-identify as either: youth (30 and under) OR part of a marginalized community that may face disproportionate barriers to reaching certain milestones (e.g. poets of colour, indigenous poets, poets with disabilities, LGBTQIA+ poets). We encourage poets who identify as belonging to any of these groups to apply regardless of experience level.

Selection criteria:

Print poets must have at least:
- one book of poetry
OR
-one chapbook AND a significant number of poems published in recognized literary journals or anthologies

Spoken word poets must have a full body of work that demonstrates professional commitment and proficiency in the field of spoken word, such as:
- a recorded studio album
OR
-participation on a spoken word team
OR
- three featured performance sets of at least 15 minutes each

This project is funded by the CRD, the City of Victoria, the BC Arts Council, and the Canada Council for the Arts.
