This session will begin to build educators’ capacity to implement culturally responsive practices, as outlined in Quality Standard II, Element B of the State Rubric for Evaluating Colorado Teachers. By the end of the ½ day session, participants will be able to recognize and describe multiple aspects of diversity within their local schools and communities, analyze the role of cultural values and linguistic forms in teaching students from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds and apply new understandings of diversity, values and linguistic forms toward modification of existing lessons and curricula in order to enhance cultural responsiveness.
