현재 주한 유학생은 18만명으로 교육부에서는 2027년까지 유학생 30만명 유치를 목표로 하고 있으며 외국인 유치 확대로 인하여 앞으로 발생할 경제효과가 총 4조 8500억원에 이를 것으로 기대하고 있습니다.
유학생이 없다면 모든 대학은 문을 닫아야 하거나 국가와 개인이 부담해야 교육비는 훨씬 크게 될 것입니다. 또한 유학생을 통해 세계 각국과의 민간 교류가 증가하고 있습니다.
유학생의 사회적 기여에 반해 유학생의 국내 취업률은 16%로 다른 국가에 비해 낮으며 유학생을 보호하고 권익을 위한 제도와 정책은 미비합니다.
이에 국제청년센터는 유학생이 교육, 경제, 문화 등 한국 사회 전반에 걸친 기여에 대한 사회적 인식을 확산하고 유학생의 권익 신장을 위해 유학생의날 제정을 위한 서명운동을 벌이고 있습니다.

It is expected that the economic effect that will be generated by expanding the number of foreign students will reach a total of 4.85 trillion won.
Without international students, all universities would have to close or the government and individuals would have to shoulder the cost of education, which would be much greater. Additionally, private exchanges with countries around the world are increasing through international students.
Despite the social contribution of international students, the domestic employment rate of international students is 16%, which is lower than that of other countries, and the systems and policies to protect and protect the rights of international students are insufficient.
Accordingly, the International Youth Center is holding a signature campaign to establish International Student Day to spread social awareness of the contributions of international students to the overall Korean society, including education, economy, and culture, and to promote the rights and interests of international students.
