If you are in or are going to be in a chair or director role, are moving into leadership roles in your professional field, and/or have issues that you are passionate about that you would like to move forward though not in a formal leadership role, you might be interested in a Fall book group using the text “Reframing Academic Leadership” by Joan Gallos and Lee Bolman.

This book looks at academic leadership through four frames with the idea that by understanding and effectively using these four dimensions of academic leadership, one can more effectively navigate institutional structures, create buy-in, and promote change. Whether you are in a formal leadership position or not, this book provides concrete tools that have the potential to help you be more effective at moving forward issues you care about. Discussions will focus on applications of the reading in thinking about the many different ways that formal and informal leadership opportunities show up in our professional lives. The book group is geared towards faculty, but staff are welcome to participate.

The book group will be co-facilitated by Jennifer Wolff, Mija Van Der Wege, and Marty Baylor and will meet three Tuesdays during Fall term (September 20th, October 11th, and November 1st) from 4:30-6:00 PM in the LTC Library (Weitz 146). Space is limited, so signup now!

This book group is being sponsored by the Provost’s Office. Faculty and staff up to the department chair level regardless of whether they are in an official leadership position are welcome to participate. Faculty and staff in college-level administrative offices interested in this type of book group should contact Associate Provost Yansi Perez (yperez@carleton.edu). Any questions or concerns should be sent to Marty Baylor (mbaylor@carleton.edu).
