SUMMER 2020 Senior Advisor Notes
Hello Senior Advisors for the Class of 2021!   Please make contact with your senior(s) to schedule a 1:1 meeting time that works for both of your summer calendars.  At this time, we are recommending virtual conferencing (Zoom, Google Hangouts, Face Time, etc.)  Please also invite his/her parents to this first meeting (which is, of course, is optional.)  During the meeting, please ask the following questions to help foster discussion and record answers in the fields provided.  The deadline for this cycle of Notes is September 15th.

After you have submitted the form, you will have the option to submit another response (if you are working with more than one student). You will also be emailed a copy of your responses. Feel free to reach out to us with any concerns: seniors@crosbyscholarsrowan.org or 704-762-3512. Thank you!

CROSBY SENIOR REQUIREMENTS
We encourage Seniors to meet Crosby requirements as soon as possible.  Please remind them that they are welcome (and encouraged) to attend more than 2 academies because we believe the content is so valuable to them; however the requirement is only to attend two.

If your Senior asks, please clarify that their Community Service can not be chores "around the house," can not be activity for which they are paid and should not be something that is already part of their normal routine (ex:  acolyting at their church).  Though all of these activities may be productive and commendable, Crosby Scholars can not recognize them for Community Service hours.  Advise them that Crosby Scholars will be addressing how students can safely approach Community Service within the context of the pandemic. We have an online Community Service form with a link on our website (not in the student portal).  Also, the Crosby Scholars Community Service form can be downloaded from our website.

Have you completed 2 or more hours of Community Service this summer?

As a Senior, you are required to attend 2 Senior Academy events this year. We will have over 20 available.  Are you registered to attend any of these upcoming Academies?  Look for more in your monthly newsletters.
Have you attended a College Fair? If so, when and where?
From 9th grade - today, list the colleges where you have participated in official college visits/tours that were in person:
What other schools do you plan to tour this year?  For the time being, Crosby Scholars is strongly recommending virtual tours.  Seniors who need guidance should reference their Summer Newsletter (Smore).
ACADEMICS
Please take this opportunity to review the student's current high school Grade Point Average. Talk about their weighted GPA and ensure that students are taking the proper courses for graduation and college access.  Primarily, the student works this out through their Guidance Counselor but we just want to touch base with them to make sure they are aware of their graduation requirements.  For instance, this is a good time to remind students that they need to take 2 courses in the same Foreign Language for college.

STANDARDIZED TESTS
If your senior cannot remember his/her test score(s), please have the student log on to ACT.org or CollegeBoard.org (SAT) to look up this information.
How many times have you taken the ACT?
What is your highest ACT composite score?
How many times have you taken the SAT?
What is your highest SAT score?
Testing has been disrupted by the pandemic.  If you plan to take a test this Fall, we suggest you register as early as possible because of heightened demand.  Keep in mind, there is no "test at home" option at this time.  Do you plan to retake:
If you plan to (re)take the SAT this year, for which test date are you planning to register?
If you plan to (re)take the ACT this year, for which test dates are you planning to register?
Some students are eligible for up to 4 standardized test fee waivers.  Do you need to obtain a test fee waiver?
