Summer Enrichment Registration
A variety of enrichment courses will be offered this summer at the Academy.  The full list of course descriptions and session information can be found below.

For planning purposes, please register by Friday, June 24, 2022.

During the last two weeks of August, most courses have been scheduled in the afternoon so they will not conflict with fall sports practices which take place in the morning.

Critical Thinking & Problem Solving for the High School Student (grades 9-12)
This program will provide students with some of the most essential building blocks needed to tackle any Academy course. Not sure how to start an essay? We’ll look at that. Writing too few (or too many) notes for an assignment? We can help. Always narrowing it down to two and then picking the wrong multiple choice answer? We’ve got that one too. It all comes down to thinking.  We will explore current events, the Academy-wide summer reading, and even your favorite Netflix shows to develop these key components to critical thinking and problem solving:

Curiosity: The readiness to ask questions about the material in front of you (as well as the world around you).
Creativity: The ability to come up with new ideas and to apply them to all your courses.
Criticism: The artistry of analyzing information, ideas, and opinions to create educated theories and judgments.
Communication: The ability to convey your thoughts in a clear and convincing manner in a range of forms and media.

Two sessions of this one-week program will be offered.

Session 1 - 8/1-8/5, 9:00-11:00
Session 2 - 8/8-8/12, 11:30-1:30
Cost:        $350
English PSAT/SAT/ACT Boot Camp (grades 9-12)
This English PSAT/SAT/ACT boot camp is offered to help students boost their performance on college entrance examinations.  The course will focus on critical reading as well as writing.

Successful writing on these standardized tests is informed by critical thinking and demonstrates: the command of textual evidence; efficiency in the expression of ideas; and familiarity with standard English language conventions.  We will closely read, analyze, interpret, and improve passages of fiction and nonfiction, as well as discuss strategies for handling difficulties.  The program is designed to:

EXPAND vocabulary
REFRESH grammar
IDENTIFY how punctuation, transitions, and signal words affect meaning
CLARIFY the relationships between ideas in a piece of literature to unlock meaning

Two sessions of this one-week boot camp will be offered.

Session 1 - 8/1-8/5, 9:00-11:00
Session 2 - 8/8-8/12, 11:30-1:30
Cost:        $350

Problem Solving & Data Analysis
Advanced Math
Calculator Applications [TI-84 graphing calculator needed for the camp]
