Typically delivered as a weekend-long, 2-day experience in non-COVID times, this STREAM Girls program utilizes a hybrid teaching model that blends guided online instruction (3 live Zoom sessions May 7, 12, and 21 + library of online instructional videos) with remote family- or troop-led activities at home or in nearby nature. Face-to-face experiences will NOT occur between STREAM Girls instructors and STREAM Girls participants, but participants are strongly encouraged to complete remote learning activities with members of their own household and/or pandemic pods while following CDC guidelines.
The program will take approximately 8 hours spread across 2 full weeks. Roughly 4 of these 8 hours will be engaging Zoom experiences:
In-person, remote learning activities at home or in nearby nature make up the remaining 4 or more hours (e.g., after school, on weekends, or whenever best suits participant schedules). It is recommended that participants complete remote learning activities in collaboration with their family, household, or troop.
At the beginning and end of the May 7-21 program time span, STREAM Girls Remote Learning Kits (include educational materials and loaner gear like fly rods and fly-tying equipment) will be provided at TBD pick-up location(s) in southeastern and southcentral PA, including one location at Stroud Water Research Center (Avondale, Chester County, PA). Additional pick-up/drop-off locations in the Lancaster, Philadelphia, and other local regions may be selected based on geography of participants.
