Solar Research Study

Have solar panels? Interested in battery storage? Join our study!

University College London and Carbon Co-op are running a study exploring how households with their own solar panels might work to share a battery, to help minimise costs and maximise the positive environmental impact.

Much of our response to climate change has involved calling on people and households to change their personal behaviour. The potential for more collective solutions remains under-explored and poorly understood. We are interested in investigating the impacts of shared batteries within small-scale energy communities.

To do so, we are looking for participants who have solar panels and a working smart meter, compatible with our PowerShaper Monitor system which allows you to access your smart meter data through our dashboard, and who are willing to join a workshop in Greater Manchester where we simulate a shared battery, and use data from your solar panels to explore different possibilities for how such a battery might be used and impact on your energy consumption.

Eligible participants who are not yet PowerShaper Monitor users will be given a free PowerShaper Monitor subscription, allowing them to access their smart meter, and carbon consumption data directly through our dashboard.

Participants will also be given £50 for their time.

We may need to visit your home in order to access solar generation data. Being based in Greater Manchester, we need to factor in travel times.
Do you have Solar Panels?  *
Enter the brand/model of your solar inverter *
Do you have a smart meter? *
Are you already connected to PowerShaper Monitor?  *
If you are not yet a PowerShaper Monitor user we will send you an invite to connect your smart meter to our service. This is a requirement to participate in this study.
