How to Play
The scenario is presented below. Read each question carefully. Some questions require you to use your genetics/genomics knowledge learned in the classroom. Other questions require you to click a link and read through a webpage for the answer. If you answer a question incorrectly, a hint will pop up. Correct answers will allow you to unlock the section and move to the next. Upon completion, download the certificate and input your name in celebration of DNA Day 2021!
The DNA Day Scenario
The National Human Genome Research Institute has moved beyond earth, to Mars, and you are the lead researcher of a mission like no other. Your goal is to research how the Mars environment impacts the health of the new human colony living there. Joining you on this mission are the others in the escape room, as well as a computer with advanced artificial intelligence tools known as DNA (pronounced Dee-nah). DNA maintains the ship’s functions and engages in conversation with you and your crew over the course of the trip, essentially acting as one of the crew members. As you are nearing Mars, DNA begins malfunctioning due to an unanticipated and spectacular solar flare event from the sun, sending an enormous amount of electromagnetic radiation directly into space, engulfing your ship. Unfortunately, this radiation is disrupting DNA’s programming code and has resulted in DNA changing the ship’s angle and course to Mars. You are now headed past Mars directly towards an asteroid belt that will surely crush your ship. In order for you to reprogram DNA’s code and get back on track, you must answer a series of questions. Each correct answer will correct a line of DNA's code so you can change your ship's course back to Mars!
