Lead Florist & Weddings & Events Manager
We are looking for an experienced floral designer to cover a maternity leave between May 2022-January 2023 (8 months). As we are a growing business, the possibility of staying on as wedding lead is very possible but will be assessed at the end of the contract term.
The ideal candidate is ambitious, motivated, and is ready to help us grow our small business. They thrive in a fast-paced environment and are great at managing time and priorities. They are super organized and can create systems & processes to ensure efficiency.
We cannot accept applicants who will be freelancing or working on their own business during this contract position. If you have your own business, we ask that you put it on hold while holding this position as it will be time-demanding.
JOB DUTIES
General/Lead Florist
- Work under the shop manager to create an outstanding shop environment and customer experience
- Ensure the smooth running of flower shop operations including keeping track of future orders, orders are completed in a timely manner, quality control is maintained, inventory of florist supplies & flowers, etc
- Ensure day-to-day flowers shop duties are completed (cleaning, organization, preparations)
- Lead the floral team in completing daily orders according to May Flowers’ style and menu of offerings
- Delegate duties and responsibilities to other florists
- Work with the shop manager to review florists
- Complete weekly inventory of vases and supplies
- Order flowers, supplies, vases, etc on a regular basis & as needed
- Assist and cash out customers on phone or in person as needed
- Conduct consultations for walk-in customers as needed and price out custom work (i.e. funeral/sympathy)
- Come up with ideas for productivity, efficiency, waste reduction, etc
- Keep basement and workroom organized
- Assist shop manager and other staff in keeping the shop running smoothly, taking part in opening/closing procedures when needed, assist in cleaning and maintenance of common areas
- Assist with flower pick up and daily deliveries when needed
- Willingness to take constructive criticism/reviews from shop manager and improve as needed
- Keep a daily record of work done, meeting discussions, staff incidents, and other notable things
Wedding Manager
- Answer emails related to wedding inquiries
- Conduct consultations, create quotes and mood boards, and book clients for future wedding dates
- Keep track of workflow regarding all wedding/event clients and ensure client files are up to date
- Ensure clients are billed and payments are up to date
- Create recipes and stem counts for weddings
- Order flowers, vases, and supplies for weddings
- Create design plan and all wedding day preparations including to-do lists for the other staff and day-of function sheet
- Rent UHAULS as needed
- Work with shop manager to ensure we have adequate staffing and reaching out to freelancers as needed
- Work with your team on the wedding day to flawlessly execute your design plan
- Make notes of lessons learned
- Ensure freelancers are invoicing appropriately
- Create budgets and ensure weddings are “in budget”
- Prepare for and/or willing to rectify emergencies like last-minute trips to flower market, missing items, sourcing items from different suppliers, last minute client requests (when appropriate)
Requirements
- 1-2 years of experience as a wedding florist
- G license and your own car
- Must not be working on your own floral business while working under contract
- Availability on weekends during peak-season (April - October)
- Ability to take initiative, work productively, and problem solve without guidance and assistance
- Ability to effectively lead a team
Pay & Hours
This is an 8-month contract position.
$18.50/hour for first month of training, $25.50 per hour
