Since 2007, the student population in West Valley School District has nearly doubled, growing from 390 to 760 students. Despite this significant increase, the voter-approved levy amounts have not changed since 2007. Only 16.88% of West Valley's budget comes from levy funds, ranking it 17th out of 19 public school districts in Flathead County for the percentage of its budget funded by district levies. Furthermore, it ranks 15th out of 19 in its spending per pupil at $8,725 per pupil compared to an average of $9,851 for the 2021-2022 school year.
Should the district be unable to pass a levy, it will be forced to cut an additional $300,000 - $500,000 from the budget for the 24-25 school year. This will likely lead to outcomes such as cuts in staff positions, increased class sizes, loss of elective courses, reductions in small group hyper focused learning (reading and math groups for kids that need it), decreased student safety during lunch/recess, outdated technology and curriculum, increased staff burnout, and neglect of critical building maintenance needs.
