The Collections Preservation Team (CPT) is a group of heritage stewards from across the state and is part of the greater Utah Collections Preservation (UCP) Program. The UCP program is offered by Utah Field Services, a collaboration of Utah Arts & Museums, Utah Humanities, and the Utah Historical Society. It is funded in part by the National Endowment from the Humanities.
Team members will attend training in collections care and preventive conservation through 12 online sessions, and 4, 2-part, in-person workshops over 2 calendar years (2025 and 2026). The program provides financial support for travel to in-person workshops. Accepted CPT members will receive training in completing preservation site assessments, will be assigned a neighboring Utah museum to which they will provide an assessment, and will complete a final assessment. CPT members will complete a preservation project specific to their institution's needs under the mentorship of Utah Field Services. The preservation project will be decided upon in collaboration with Utah Field Services, with funding not to exceed $5,000 with a 1:1 match (cash and/or in-kind). (Note that institutions at public universities and heritage parks may be ineligible for this funding at this time, though we encourage any interested applicants from those organizations to reach out to us before applying to discuss their particular situation).
After completion of the two-year program, team members may be eligible to provide preservation services to others in their region.
The CPT is limited to three new members who will be selected by application. This application form will remain open until May 31st, 2024.
