Spiritualists & Suffragists: An Evening at Lily Dale
Join UB Gender Institute Director Carrie Bramen as she hosts an evening at the historic Lily Dale Spiritualist community, to learn about how famous nineteenth-century Spiritualists and Suffragists convened at Lily Dale to advocate for women’s rights. On the eve of the centennial of the 19th Amendment, when women gained the right to vote, this event will look at the role a small Spiritualist community in rural Western New York played in women’s reform movements nationally.
The evening will begin with a dinner buffet at the new Bough House Restaurant in the heart of the village, followed by a historical re-enactment performance by the Lily Dale Women’s Event Committee. There will be a curated exhibit of artifacts for display of women's rights in Chautauqua County and early membership ephemera. The evening will conclude with a demonstration of mediumship.
