Opportunity St. Paul LCE #1
Join us for the first Learning Community Event of the year!
Thursday Oct. 17 | 6:00-8:30
The Wellstone Center | 179 Robie St E, St Paul, MN
Please RSVP by Monday, October 14th
Join us for an evening of food, fellowship, and learning as we begin digging into this year's curriculum focused on exploring the neighborhoods in which we live and serve!
In this program year, we hope to look closely at the five neighborhoods in Saint Paul in which we work most deeply (Rondo, Rice Street, Payne/Phalen/Dayton’s Bluff, Frogtown/Midway, and West Side). We’d like to come to better understand how these neighborhoods came to be in this moment — we’d like to understand the neighborhoods’ strengths, but we’d also like to understand how our community has failed these neighborhoods, resulting in barriers to economic mobility.
Some of the themes we may choose for the six evenings include: immigration; transportation (including highway construction, availability of public transportation); housing issues (including redlining, FHA mortgage patterns, and more); access to healthy food; employment (availability of jobs); education; child care; roles of religious institutions; and more.
