Who are we?
We are a 501c3 non-profit animal rescue & rehabilitation organization located in Gainesville, FL.
Mission Statements:
1. Dedicated to the rehabilitation of unwanted, neglected and homeless pets with the intent to find them new, permanent and loving homes.
2. Committed to providing a sanctuary for abused, neglected and unwanted animals of all species.
3. Dedicated to promoting responsible pet ownership through education and by setting an example.
Why do we ask for an adoption fee?
When an animal enters our program, we typically have a lot of "work" to do before that particular individual is ready to find their forever home. Our adoption fees help us to continue providing excellent quality care & services to animals who need our help.

We also provide our foster parents with all necessary supplies while their pet is in foster care. Our organization is completely non-profit and therefore, all adoption fees are considered a donation. There is no refund of adoption fees if an animal doesn't "work out" or is returned to our program.

Prior to being adopted, all animals in our program are:
- examined by a veterinarian
- spayed or neutered
- on monthly flea & heartworm prevention
- up to date on age appropriate vaccinations
- tested for intestinal parasites & common infectious diseases
- treated for any pre-existing medical and/or surgical conditions
- dewormed
- microchipped (dogs & puppies)

In addition to the animals available for adoption, we also provide lifelong care to a variety of "permanent residents".
- We offer a safe haven for geriatric animals who simply need a safe, loving "retirement home".
- We care for animals who have lifelong medical concerns and who require lifelong medications/treatments.
- We cater to animals who have behavioral concerns.
- We provide "end of life" care to animals who are suffering and who have terminal illnesses or conditions.
- We never discriminate against age, breed, physical appearance, background or health status.
Our adoption process:
Adopting and owning a pet is a serious, lifelong commitment & our adoption process is designed to help ensure a perfect, lifelong match between you, your family and your new pet. We will go out of our way to accommodate everyone involved, however, we do not cater to impulse decisions and we do not conduct "same day adoptions". We focus on conducting "quality" adoptions that will last a lifetime.

A typical "on site" adoption involves:
1. The applicant identifies a pet of interest and fully completes a written application.
2. An adoption counselor reviews your application and discusses any potential concerns/questions.
3. If the written application is accepted, a "pending adoption" is placed on the pet of interest.
4. References, rental policies, etc, are checked within 72 hours of completion of the application.
5. You will be notified of our decision within 72 hours after completion of the application.

Alternatively, some applicants download and complete an application via our website. If we receive an application prior to an adoption event, we are able to check references ahead of time and speak with you in advance; it may then be possible to be pre-approved and thus take a pet home during the event itself.

* Please note: A completed application does not guarantee that the adoption process will continue. We reserve the right to deny an adoption at any time during the application process. We will deny an adoption if we are not confident that a perfect match is being made for all parties involved. While we understand that this decision can be frustrating, please don't take it personally as we are simply looking out for everyone's best interest
What makes SCRR unique?
Once an animal enters our program, we make a lifelong commitment to that animal. When you adopt an animal from our organization, you and your family become an extension of our "family". We make ourselves available to you and your new pet even after the adoption is complete.

Post adoption services that are typically utilized include (but are not limited to):
- Basic training / behavior advice via phone and /or e-mail
- Continuity of veterinary services (please ask us for details)
- Local referrals (ie boarding, grooming, doggie day care services, pet sitting, etc)

We are very dedicated to our cause and we hope that you feel comfortable & confident that we have our animal's best interest in mind. We look forward to working with you and we thank you for your time and desire to learn more about us. Please feel free to ask us questions along the way and please notify us if, during the adoption process, you decide to go elsewhere or change your mind about the pet of interest. We invest a lot of time during each adoption process and your courtesy is much appreciated.
