Mentee and Parent Expectations & Code of Conduct for SLA 2021-2022

Attendance Policy

All Mentees who are selected to attend SLA must be present for each session.  Attendance will be taken at the beginning of each SLA session. A commitment to attend each session is a required component of being accepted into the program.  Should the Mentee need to miss, you must notify the SLA Team via email at info@100princegeorges.org prior to being absent.  Should an emergency arise, please send an email as soon as possible.  We are asking for a commitment from both parents/guardians as well as Mentees to ensure this experience is mutually beneficial for all.

Code of Conduct

Our Saturday Leadership Academy offers many unique opportunities and experiences through a mentoring approach. We promote an atmosphere where our Mentors and Mentees work together to foster positive relationships and genuine respect while learning valuable life lessons. Our goal is to make this program an educational, safe, and enjoyable experience for everyone. We require your cooperation and commitment to the following standards to help us meet this goal.  Our Mentee’s are expected to demonstrate high standards of conduct and abide by the rules and expectations of SLA.

As a Mentee participant, it is your responsibility to Be respectful, Be safe, Be considerate by:

●     Attending each Saturday session on time

●     Actively participating while in session

●     Maintaining a positive attitude

●     Follow all directions & rules of the program

●     Working through problems or conflict with words

SLA Outings:  Mentee’s must follow the directions, rules, and regulations both prior to and during the trip.  If the student should violate any of these rules, he/she may be sent home at the sole discretion of the mentors/chaperones. In such cases, the parent/guardian will be contacted to come and pick up their child.

Disciplinary Procedures

All Mentees are responsible for their own actions and behaviors.  In order to have a successful and meaningful experience during Saturday Leadership Academy (SLA), Mentees must follow at all times the three B’s.

Be respectful, Be safe, Be considerate

 By doing the following:

●     Attentively listen to speakers

●     Raise hand and wait to speak

●     Refrain from the use of electronic devices unless directed by the session leader

●     Actively participate with a positive attitude while in session

●     Speak with appropriate voice volume and tone to peers, Mentors, and session leaders

●     Follow all directions & rules of the program

●     Work through problems or conflict with words

●     Complete tasks asked of you

●     Keep hands to yourself/refrain from horseplay

Should a Mentee not display the three B’s during their time in the program, he/she may be subject to temporary or permanent removal from the program.

If a Mentee’s behavior needs to be addressed for not following the three B’s he/she will be redirected to get back on task and follow the expectations outlined by Mentors or session leaders.  If the Mentee is able to reset and get back on track, he/she will remain in the session.

However, should the Mentee’s behavior become disruptive for a second time the Mentee will be asked to leave the session or activity.  A Mentor or group leader will speak to the Mentee in efforts to further understand and explain the expectations.  We will ask for the Mentee to complete a think sheet about how his/her actions have affected the session or activity and expect an agreement to recommit to the three B’s.

Should the Mentee need a third redirection for distracting or inappropriate behaviors, he/she will be asked to leave the session and a Mentor or leader will notify the parent/guardian of the behavior(s) which led to their removal and be asked to pick up the Mentee.  Within 72 hours of the removal of the Mentee from the session and parent/guardian notification, a decision will be made about the Mentee's consequence for his/her actions.  A formal re-entry meeting back into the program will be required and the attendance of the Mentee and parent/guardian is required prior to returning to SLA.

SLA Outings:  The three B’s must be displayed at all times.  We expect Mentees to follow the directions, rules, and regulations both prior to and during all outings and field trips.  If the Mentee should violate any of these rules, he/she may be sent home at the sole discretion of the Mentors/Chaperones. In such cases, the parent/guardian will be contacted to come and pick up the Mentee and a formal re-entry meeting must be held prior to return to SLA.  Should a Mentee have a second disruption which requires his/her removal from an SLA outing or field trip, the Mentee will be suspended from further outings for a length of time to be determined by the SLA team.

★    By signing the commitment contract at the end of this application, both Mentee and parent/guardian accept these disciplinary actions as code of conduct for entry and active status in the SLA program.

Our Approach is to Utilize Positive Behavior Incentives and Supports

Parents Roles & Responsibilities

Parents/guardians play a pivotal role in the work we do.  We ask for your support and partnership as we work with your Mentee.  Should you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to reach out as our goal is to work collaboratively to improve our program.  We will have opportunities for parents to attend outings, engage in volunteer work, and participate in our Parent Engagement Workshops.
