Site-Specific (Outdoors) Dance
Collaborate on Zoom and then take it to the outdoors. Mount Olive Lutheran in Shakopee has a large grassy space where dancers can be socially distant and the audience can be too! Anyone aged 10+ who possesses the following can sign up to participate!
Loves Christian music
Musically and rhythmically attuned (can hear the beat and count it)
Socially respectful & cooperative
Can adapt to changing rules (choreographically and COVID-related)
Willing to dance alone in one small area
Capable (body awareness) of dancing on the grass
Self-control when in an online platform
Follows direction willingly (positive attitude)
Focused ability to learn choreography from a video
Committed to fully participating (1-3 hours daily whether on Zoom, recording, learning, etc.)
This is a flexible, pliable project where dates and times have already shifted.
June 8-14: Choreographers learn and plan
June 15-21: Choreographers meet with each dance group on Zoom for 30+ min daily
June 22-24: Finishing touches; may include a short on-site dress rehearsal
June 25-28: Weather Dependent on-site run through & performance (separate days)
Who is leading this project?
Angela Stelljes grew up in Minnesota and started dance lessons in the 6th grade. After studying theatre & dance (and business!) at Minnesota State University, Mankato she moved to NYC. For 4 years she was able to immerse herself in the NYC dance community while working for ArtsConnection. Most applicable to this project, she has performed in an old Brooklyn can factory and onstage with Twyla Tharp for a version of the Hundreds. She also wrote about site-specific dance for Dance Spirit magazine!
I am super excited to fuse together our love for our Lord with the lyrical focus of Christian songs. I also hope to educate each of you on approaches to dancemaking, performance in out-of-the box places, and collaboration!
DANCER SIGN-UP DEADLINE: June 12, 2020 (Should be within driving distance of Shakopee, MN)
