NM Humanities Now! Summer Academy 2021
Thank you for your interest in the 2021 New Mexico Humanities Now! Summer Academy 2021. The application is due Friday, March 12, 2021 by 11:59pm. Notifications of acceptance will be announced March 26, 2021.

WHAT IS SUMMER ACADEMY?:
A rich, supportive learning environment to create a seamless transfer pathway for students from CNM to UNM, where students develop critical thinking and research skills for academic success in the Humanities. During Summer Academy students take 6 credits of upper division (300-level or higher) humanities courses, taught by UNM faculty. With grades of "C" or better, the credit hours may be applied to both the AA degree at CNM and the BA degree at UNM. In addition, students are eligible for a stipend of $1000 upon completion of the courses. Lastly, students will have access to graduate student mentors in the humanities for guidance - academic or professional - for the duration of Summer Academy, perhaps longer if you choose.

The NMHN Summer Academy is part of the CNM/UNM Building Humanities Transfers Pathways Initiative funded by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.

WHAT COURSES ARE OFFERED IN SUMMER ACADEMY 2021?:
1) June 7-June 25 - Community, Memory and Regeneration, 3 credits-HIST 300, SPAN 301, ANTH 340, CCS 393, LTAM 400, AMST 310
2) June 28-July 23 - Southwest Literature and Culture, 3 credits-ENGL 374, ANTH 340, CCS 393, NAS 450, RELG 347, WGSS 379

BENEFITS OF SUMMER ACADEMY:
- 6 credits of upper division courses (300-level or higher) to apply to CNM AA degree and UNM BA degree
- $1000 stipend for EACH course successfully completed
- GA mentorship and support
- Developing reading, research, and study skills for higher level major courses
- Establish relationships with UNM faculty and other campus and community humanities professionals

ELIGIBILITY:
NMHN Summer Academy is for students who
1) Transferring from Central New Mexico Community College to University of New Mexico
2) Completed 24 transferrable credit with 2.0 minimum gpa
3) Preferably have experience working with, or professional relationship with, a CNM faculty member
4) Accepted to University of New Mexico (as degree-seeking, highly recommended for financial aid purposes)
5) Majoring in a Humanities subject at UNM
6) UNM students in a Humanities major listed below who have transferred from CNM in summer 2020 and after

Eligible UNM Majors:
Africana Studies, American Studies, Anthropology, Chicana/o Studies, Classical Studies, Communication, Comparative Literature/Cultural Studies, East Asian Studies, English-Philosophy, English Studies, French, German, History, International Studies, Journalism & Mass Communication, Languages, Latin American Studies, Native American Studies, Philosophy, Portuguese, Religious Studies, Russian, Spanish, Women, Gender, & Sexuality Studies

TRANSFER TRACKS:
NM Humanities Now recognizes that students interested in the Summer Academy may be at various stages in their transfer journey. You are welcome to apply if you are in any track listed and meet the eligibility requirements above!
- CNM students with 24 minimum college credits completed, but have more than 30 credits left to complete their
   CNM AA degree
- CNM students just completing the final semester of their AA degree courses before the start of Summer
   Academy
- CNM students who have made the transfer to a UNM Humanities program since summer of 2020

UNM Application, Acceptance, & Additional Information
The NMHN Summer Academy admits between 25-35 transfer students that meet the eligibility. As previously stated the application is due February 26, 2021 by 11:59pm. Notifications of acceptance will be announced March 12, 2021. In addition to this NMHN Summer Academy application, you must also complete an application to UNM. Here is how:

TO APPLY TO UNM:
1) Create a login ID and PIN at https://admapp.unm.edu/home
2) Complete your online application at https://www.unm.edu/apply/ - click on Albuquerque campus and then Undergraduate Applications

ONCE ACCEPTED TO UNM:
Once you are accepted to UNM you will be given information on how to:
1) Create your UNM NetID - to receive email that NMHN and course faculty will use to communicate with you
2) Sign up for and attend a Transfer Orientation program - prior to the start of Summer Academy!
3) If you are a current Lottery Success Scholarship recipient - instructions on submitting the scholarship transfer transcript
4) How to use LoboTrax to review how your CNM credits apply to your future UNM Humanities degree program
