Golden Gate Science Olympiad General Volunteer Interest Form 2023-2024
On February 11th, 2024, high school students from across the nation will compete in the 8th Golden Gate Science Olympiad Invitational (see last paragraph below if you've never heard of Science Olympiad before!). This tournament is co-hosted by Science Olympiad alumni from Stanford and Cal, and will feature over 800 high school students competing in each of the 23 official events. Top national teams will be joining schools from up and down California for this competitive tournament.

This year, the tournament will be held IN PERSON (as per Covid guidelines). We need volunteers to help us grade tests in a timely manner and ensure we can deliver the best possible experience for competitors!

ALL volunteers will receive a FREE GGSO t-shirt!

Please fill out this form to indicate any interest in helping put on this incredible tournament. We highly encourage only students from Berkeley or Stanford to volunteer, but we are open to volunteers from other Bay Area colleges and universities as well. HIGH SCHOOL students are NOT allowed to apply to be a volunteer. If you are found to be a high schooler, any team affiliated with you will be disqualified.

We need student volunteers to help this tournament be a success! The majority of other general volunteers, whether you have 7 years of experience or none, will be able to help set up, administer, and judge events. Please fill out this form to indicate any interest in helping put on this incredible tournament!

Please contact us at goldengatescioly@gmail.com or check us out at goldengateso.com if you have any questions! Note that this form is NOT an absolute commitment.

**The deadline for this form was January 7th, 2024 at 11:59pm PST, but it has been extended! Be sure to apply as soon as possible (ideally by Wednesday)!**

Read on for a description of Science Olympiad.

Science Olympiad is a national science and engineering competition for middle and high school students. Teams compete in regional, state, and national tournaments, as well as invitational competitions like this year's Golden Gate Tournament at UC Berkeley. Teams of 15 students study and prepare for 23 events, ranging from Anatomy and Physiology to Air Trajectory or Forensics. Some events involve laboratory experiments or written tests, while others evaluate pre-built engineering devices. Each competition consists of a series of event blocks followed by an exciting awards ceremony.

The Golden Gate Invitational has been a success for the past 7 years as the first university-led invitational on the West Coast, and we are excited to make our 8th year an inspiring experience for our competitors!
