James and Karen Lee Scholarship
The James and Karen Lee Scholarship hopes to help a student from a low-income immigrant family with college education expenses so that they can better focus on their education. As a low-income immigrant student, James worked part-time throughout his school years from elementary school through UC Berkeley to pay for his own education. James hopes this scholarship can make it a easier for the deserving candidate to better achieve education success and therefore life success.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:
• Current CYC youth participant & high school senior
• Residency: San Francisco
• Ethnicity: Asian Pacific Islander

SELECTION CRITERIA:
• Immigrant experience(s)
•.Leadership qualities with a track record of handling responsibilities
• Financial need
• Personal strengths including maturity, motivation and potential to succeed through hard work

DEADLINE:
• Applications must be received by Friday, May 3, 2024

APPLICATION CHECKLIST:  Applicants are responsible for submitting all materials to CYC by the deadline. Incomplete applications will not be evaluated. This application becomes complete and valid only when CYC has received all of the following materials:

✓ Completed student application form & essay answers
✓ Most recent transcript(s) of grades (including grade scale); unofficial transcripts are acceptable
✓ Resume (include work experience, school activities, community service, honors and awards)
✓ Two letters of recommendation, at least one of which is from a CYC staff. Letters should be on official school or organization letterhead. Letters should be sent to scholarship@cycsf.org on or before the deadline of Friday, May 3, 2024.

Note: Three to five finalists will be chosen. Finalists must be available for a 30-minute interview May 6-10 at CYC. If chosen for an interview, finalists must submit official transcript(s) of grades, SAT/ACT score reports (if applicable) and Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) report. Applicants will be notified by Monday, May 20, 2024 whether or not they have been selected as a scholarship recipient. Scholarships will be awarded at a ceremony on Saturday, May 25, 2025 at 4pm at a to be determined location in San Francisco. **ALL WINNERS MUST BE PRESENT AT THE CEREMONY TO RECEIVE THEIR SCHOLARSHIP**
