Constitution Preamble
We the students of Colony High School, in order to make every students school experience enjoyable, productive, and life changing; encourage commitment to academic and social excellence; provide a stepping stone for opportunities to ensure successful futures while working with the heart as well as the mind to establish a basis for a higher education; develop activities, programs, and traditions which encourage school spirit and create a sense of unity and equality among all students; do ordain and uphold the guidelines for this Constitution and all Colony Titans.

What We Do: 

Provide student activities for the Colony student body, staff and community. We support and encourage all student organizations on campus including sports, clubs, and performing arts.

APPLICATIONS ARE DUE BY MAY 5TH; INTERVIEWS WILL BE HELD THE WEEK OF MAY 8TH AS NEEDED.

ASB Application:

  1. The ASB application needs to be completed by May 5th, 2023. You will need finish the google form and print parent/staff recommendation forms to be turned in at Colony High School before 3:20 pm on May 5th. The office does close at 3:45 pm so please make sure that you get it in on time.
  2. Applications turned in late will be accepted but may disqualify the applicant from an interview.
  3. When you bring the parent/staff recommendation forms to Colony High School, please notify the receptionist that you are turning in a form for ASB and it should go to Mr. Berwick. 

ASB Interviews:

  1. After the applications have been reviewed, you will receive a notification either by email or by phone call to notify you of the status of your packet.
  2. You will be scheduled for an interview on the week of May 8th. Depending on how many students are requested to interview will depend on how many days of interviews are done.
  3. Please make sure you are on time. The interviews will be held in the COHS Lecture Hall which has access from the north side of the school through the library doors. There will be signs to point you in the right direction.

Notification of Admittance:

  1. We will be notifying you through email or phone call, so please ensure working information
  2. If you receive a phone call or email telling you that you have been selected, you will be told the first day of summer meetings. We will also discuss schedule options for you consider for your academic classes
  3. We will discuss the selection process of freshmen positions, including class officers and commissioner positions. 
  4. Remember, ASB is a large time commitment and needs to be taken seriously. Please consider all the time commitments that you have.

COMMISSIONER POSITIONS-Please select which positions you're are interested in (Understand that while your selection is strongly considered, it is not guaranteed and you may be given a different position based on class need):

ALL POSITIONS REQUIRE A MINIMUM GPA OF 2.5 IN THE CURRENT TERM, THE PREVIOUS SEMESTER, AND A YOU CAN HAVE NO F'S ON YOUR PRIOR GRADE ROSTER

-Commissioner of Athletics: Acts as host/hostess for all visiting teams when required by the Director of Athletics; Remain in constant communication with the Director of Activities; Have a thorough knowledge of all athletic scheduling and be responsible for the distribution of payment of officials; Help the Director of Activities and the Director of Athletics with the promotion of Intramural; Be responsible for the upkeep and the record of all plaques and awards; Shall work closely with coaches for first-hand knowledge of all sports teams.

-Commissioner of Hospitality: Be in charge of decorating all athletic, performing arts, and A.S.B. sponsored awards ceremonies; Be the official host/hostess of Colony High School; Represent the A.S.B. at all events requested by the Executive Board; Be responsible for all visitations on-campus; Be in charge of the Alumni reception for Homecoming

-Commissioner of Marketing: Organize and be the chairperson of the Publicity Commission, being responsible for making and posting all necessary posters and banners having to do with the publicity for the Student Body events; Be responsible for writing and/or completing all A.S.B. publicity news releases for the school and community on the available forms of communication; Work with the editors of the school newspaper and yearbook; Be responsible for the maintenance and replacement of signs; Have knowledge of all advertisement that has been placed on-campus, making sure that it is legal according to A.S.B. standards; Assist the four class and all other organizations with advertisement, when requested; Shall be responsible for promoting school spirit by initiating advertisement or sport scores to the local media, along with special awards and recognition; Advertising of the performing arts and be responsible for all media attention.

-Commissioner of Student Store: Be responsible for the maintenance of the student store; Aid the Director of Student Activities and the Executive Board in the selection of store staffing, including establishing subs when needed; Be in charge (work with staff) of the financial records, inventory, and ordering of all supplies; Submit reports and purchase orders weekly; Organize and manage the distribution of equipment and materials

-Commissioner of Campus Outreach: Required to report on club activities; Report to Exec president on Titan spotlight selections to be showcased on social media outlets; Organize events for kindness matters week; Responsible for documenting school activities; Responsible for documenting Class activities, class, and work days; Work with V.P. of student affairs to organize service events and club rush; Work with staff for the execution of mental health week.

-Commissioner of Activities: Assist the V.P. of Activities for with any assigned activities; Be responsible to the V.P. of Activities for the master activities calendar, aiding him/her with the planning and implementation; Plan the activities for the opening of the fall semester of school, with the aid of the V.P. of Activities; Be in charge of bus scheduling that pertains to student activities; Work with the V.P. of Activities for the planning of noontime activities; If requested by Executive Board, will hold a calendar signing party; Keep a current record of all local bands and DJ’s and is able to arrange contracts with them when needed; Will assist V.P. of Activities with the planning and carrying out of all rallies, noontime activities, and dances; Work with the V.P. of Activities in the planning of all A.S.B. Rallies; Will serve as co-chair of all A.S.B. Rallies; Assist with any Activities that V.P. of Activities assigns; Assist with all technology and balloon needs for all events.

Grade Requirements

1. Required: 2.5+ Current and cumulative GPA

2. Probation: Failure to maintain an accumulative 2.5 GPA and failure to keep a 2.5 GPA for each grading period results in probation which makes you ineligible for participation in activities, performances, or any event related to ASB.

3. Dismissal from class and office: If the current or cumulative GPA falls below 2.5 during any grading periods twice in a year, the student may be removed from office.

Candidates must have a 2.5 accumulated G.P.A and a 2.5 GPA for the grading period prior to the election. 

Grading System

Grades are based on attendance and participation in all assigned activities and projects. A commissioner's job description outlines the main work, but everyone is expected to serve in the planning and implementation of school events. Some missed activities may be made up, but grades will be lowered for lack of initiative or follow-through and for not fulfilling your responsibilities.

Student Store

ASB students work in the Student Store as a school service.  Students work on a rotating basis, and the student  store manager and student store commissioner record attendance and promptness. This is an important part of your grade.

Service Hours

Each ASB member is required to earn service hours each semester. While each member has specific roles based on position, all members will be active participators in all events to ensure maximum results for our campus. All member are expected to attend events, workdays and work in the student store. As per the A.S.B. constitution and By-laws, students are allowed to miss three events without penalty. More than three absences may result in disciplinary that may include, but not limited to, grade drops, removal from office, removal from class. 

Attitude

ASB students are expected to be cheerful and friendly, as well as cooperative.  The weight of responsibility is sometimes enormous, but if you plan and work hard, your activities will be successful.  Older, experienced, officers are expected to assist in the training of younger, less experienced, officers.  Everyone is expected to do his/her job and to learn from others and from their own mistakes. We will help each other, have fun, and make the year a success!

Time Commitment

      1.  As a member of the ASB class you will be expected to put in extra hours outside of class:

                  a. All required ASB Event Prep Times

                  b. Extra time needed to complete the duties of your office.

                  c. Special Events

                  d. Other duties as assigned

        2.  ASB will need to be your first priority (second only to your academic success).  If you have a job or other extra curricular activities including, but not limited to:  Church groups, drama, sports, band, dance or other club participation which will interfere with your ability to complete your ASB duties you will need to reconsider whether ASB is something you should pursue.  


Behavior

1.    ASB members shall practice acceptable behavior as outlined in the Titan Code of Conduct

       (sign below section)

2.    ASB members shall meet all the expectations of ASB students

            (sign below section).

3.    ASB members are school leaders and ambassadors at all times; therefore, ASB members must set a good example for other students at all times and have SCHOOL SPIRIT.

4.     Personal friendships and romances are to be kept separate from ASB class activities.

5.     HONOR BEHAVIOR: ASB students are expected to use their time productively, be where they are supposed to be, and to help others. No "hanging out" or "wandering" during class time.

6.     DRESS: ASB members are required to wear ASB shirts to rallies, League Conferences, CADA and CASL conferences, and other designated service days. ASB members are required to dress appropriately for dress-up days at Halloween and on other school spirit days. ASB members are expected to meet the school's dress code requirements everyday.

 

Responsibilities

1. Members shall attend class every day, be punctual, and oversee all activities assigned.

2. ASB members shall represent CoHS at rallies, back-to-school night, freshman orientation, etc.

3. ASB members use the class telephone for school business only.

4. ASB members are obligated to support school activities and to create a community of

   positive learning and human relations.

5. ASB members are expected to be friendly.

6. ASB members keep a notebook recording of their work. The notebook is a record of an

officer's project, resources, and participation in class events. This notebook is due at

the end of the first semester and it is collected in May. Failure to turn in a complete

notebook may result in lower grade or incomplete-F until the notebook is turned in.

7. CAMP: ASB members are required to attend three summer training workshops.  

 

 

Truancy

1.     Truancy is cause for suspension or removal from ASB class and office.

2.     Truancy is a breach of the CoHS constitution and Titan Code of Conduct.

CONTRACT OF EXPECTATIONS

Your role as a student leader must accurately communicate the standards and values that Colony High School promotes. You are a school leader, and as such, your behavior and attitude set the examples for others. You are a student who is in the public eye and thus are expected to ensure that your behavior does not discredit yourself, the leadership class, or your school. This behavior includes the Education Code, all school rules, and The Titan Code of Conduct. You are expected to have exemplary behavior. Violation of these expectations will cause disciplinary action and will affect your eligibility to continue in your role as a school representative.

TITAN CODE OF CONDUCT

The Titan Code of Conduct is the Colony High School Behavioral Eligibility Guidelines for student involved in extracurricular and co-curricular activities, as well as those involved in GATE. This code is founded upon the belief that students who are involved in extracurricular, co-curricular and GATE should be positive role models and are expected to adhere to the Titan Code of Conduct. Students who are suspended under California Education Code #48900 will have violated the Titan Code of Conduct.

Once a student is suspended, they are ineligible for practices, competitions, and/or activities   during this period of suspension. Further consequences related to eligibility, will be determined    by the Titan Code of Conduct Committee. This committee will determine the status of the student in the extracurricular, co-curricular, or GATE program(s). Depending on the severity of the infraction, the committee may place a student on probation, suspend the student from the program(s) for a period of time or remove student's eligibility status for the semesters and/or the semester following.

The Titan Code of Conduct Committee may be part of the Due Process Committee. The       minimal membership must be an administrator, counselor, the student, parent, and a staff      member representing the affected activity(s)/programs. In order to participate in any activity, the code of conduct must be signed by the student and his/her parents.
