There will be two shifts: 9 a.m. until 1:15 p.m. and 12:45 p.m. until 5 p.m.
You can sign up for one or both shifts.
Lunch will be 12:45-1:15 - you can bring your own or order pizza with us.
There will be a presentation during lunch break about Days for Girls.
Bring your own scissors with your name on them if possible. We have sewing machines and sergers and rotary cutters/mats/rulers, but if you have your own and can bring them, that would be great. We have a lot of jobs for non-sewers as well so please don't worry if you don't know what a rotary cutter or serger is!
There is no charge to participate in the sewathon. However the following donations are always needed:
1) Panties (girls size 14-16 or women's size 5-10 - no thongs or boy shorts - colorful cotton bikinis or briefs preferred)
2) Washcloths - cotton (Walmart & Dollar General sell a package of 18 for under $5)
3) Hotel size bars of soap
4) One inch or 1 1/2 inch size safety pins
We will have souvenir items for sale at the sewathon - from our trips to Africa, India, and Peru. We will also have our new Days for Girls T-Shirts for sale. So feel free to bring cash, check, or credit cards with you if you would like to purchase some very unique items that support a good cause!
Your volunteering will help to produce reusable, washable menstrual supplies that will be used by women and girls around the world AND around the block! Thanks to the Women's Giving Circle and many community partners, LOCAL women in need can now receive DFG kits and menstrual cups that save them money, reduce trash production, and give women peace of mind that they always have what they need to manage their menstruation and/or incontinence.
