Guides Application

!!!RAILSCONF 2025 APPLICATIONS ARE NOW CLOSED!! RubyConf 2026 applications can be submitted from this time!!

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Welcome, and thank you for your interest in becoming a volunteer Guide for this year's Scholars and Guides program!

Guides play a vital role in supporting Scholars by providing mentorship, guidance, and professional networking opportunities before and during the conference. As a Guide, you’ll help Scholars navigate the Ruby and Rails community and maximize their conference experience.

What Guides Do:

We’re looking for Guides who are familiar with the Ruby and/or Rails community and who can offer valuable insights to new Rubyists. As a Guide, you will:

  • Mentor Scholars through their mini-projects, offering guidance and support.
  • Recommend conference talks that align with your Scholar’s interests and skill levels.
  • Introduce your Scholar to influential developers who can help them grow in their area of interest.
  • Share feedback and advice on building a career in the Ruby/Rails world.
  • Attend 3 mandatory meet-ups: Speakers & Scholars Reception, Pre-conference meeting (Zoom), & Post-conference Lunchtime Retro (on-site)

Guides serve as not only a professional coach for our Scholars, but also as mentors who guide Scholars towards their objectives. Scholars are required to work on a mini-project, and Guides are responsible for narrowing down their focus and ensuring progress. The aim is for Scholars to complete their projects by the end of the conference and present their findings to their peers or a larger audience (ex) Lightning Talks or blog posts.
If a Scholar asked you for session recommendations, what factors would you consider in making those recommendations?
Now tell us something about you that has nothing to do with programming
