LSU Center for French and Francophone Studies Micro-Grant Proposal Form

The CFFS Micro-Grant initiative invites members of the LSU community to convene small-scale intellectual or creative exchanges that illuminate the broad applicability of intellectual and artistic contributions from the French and Francophone world, broadly construed. All members of the LSU community – undergraduates, graduate students, staff, and faculty – are invited to apply, although preference will be given to student and non-TT/early career faculty proposals. Successful proposals will be eligible to receive organizational support from the CFFS in the form of publicity and help securing on-campus spaces, as well as material support for honoraria and refreshments (up to $500). Whenever possible, Micro-Grant activities will be recorded and archived on the CFFS website for future reference.

With limited exceptions, the CFFS Micro-Grant is not intended for traditional “lectures” by scholars; rather, we seek participatory formats (workshops or seminars) that encourage discussion and interaction with invited scholars or artists. This will often involve pre-circulation of materials, to establish a common ground of discussion. Applications from groups of 4 or more conveners are especially welcome, as these demonstrate sufficient interest to move forward with the project if it is approved.

---------

Here are some projects the CFFS would be eager to support – but we are especially open to innovative variations that exceed the suggestions below!

· Virtual workshops with scholars working on French or Francophone topics, or working with theories related to French or Francophone thought in any field

· In-person seminars with local scholars whose work engages Louisiana and Caribbean studies (with at least some connection to Francophone cultures of the region)

· Theory reading groups, including French and Francophone sources

· Interdisciplinary discussions that seek to broaden the scope of French Studies

· Workshops or seminars examining issues and practices of digital humanities in French and Francophone contexts

At this time, we are not accepting micro-grant applications to support brown-bag or works-in-progress series for dissertation-stage students. Additionally, Micro-Grants cannot be used to pay for airfare, lodging or special meals.
