Instructions
Please read all of the following instructions carefully. Applications not meeting the requirements indicated here will not be considered for award of a mini-grant this year.

• Grant opportunities are available for teachers of students in Okeechobee School District K-12 classes and can be used for experiential learning and/or to purchase resources and production materials to facilitate their students further developing skills in vocabulary.

• You may apply for multiple grant opportunities.
o 56 named grant opportunities from 21 local donors are available.
o Improved vocabulary skills are a requirement for every opportunity as well as additional requirements listed under each grant opportunity.
o Submit a SEPARATE APPLICATION FOR EACH grant opportunity you are applying for. There is no limit.
o Please ensure each application meets the requirements of the opportunity

• All applications must focus on “Vocabulary – The Study of Words” concept.
o Students will interact with text in a meaningful way.
o Students will work at the appropriate skill level and deeply explore topics of interest to them.
o Activities will engage and motivate students to demonstrate competency in vocabulary across numerous content areas.
o Students will demonstrate a deep understanding of literacy texts.
o Each application must describe how your students will improve their vocabulary skills for their grade level.

• Please note the following:
o Applications must address the needs of the students.
o Results must be measurable or the application will be disqualified.
o Be detailed and specific.
o Non-Allowable expenditures include capital improvements, support of interscholastic athletics, refreshments, decorative items, awards for outstanding service, and the entertainment of dignitaries.
o Application limited to two pages

Mini-Grant Opportunities
You may apply for multiple mini-grants.
You must submit a separate application for each mini-grant you apply for.
Ensure your application meets ALL requirements of each grant you apply for.


1. Altobello Family Foundation Mini-Grant – ELA
- Open to K-12 grade teachers (special consideration given to 8th & 9th grade teachers).
- Six $500 grants available.

2. Altobello Family Foundation Mini-Grant – Career Exploration
- Open to 6-8 grade teachers.
- Requirement: Career exploration and planning (preferably using MyCareerShines).
- Four $500 grants available.

3. Altobello Family Foundation Mini-Grant – Mentoring
- Open to K-12 grade teachers.
- Requirement: Adult or peer mentor program particularly for tier three students.
- One $1,000 grant available.

4. Altobello Family Foundation Mini-Grant
- Open to K-12 grade teachers.
- One $1,000 grant and four $750 grants available.

5. SouthState Bank “We Believe In You” Mini-Grant
- Open to K–12 grade teachers.
- SouthState’s core values include, “investing in the lives of others in the community we serve”.  
- Requirement: project must include a “community partner” implementation and/or may take their grant to the community – showing the investment in others.  
- Community partners to consider: Rotary, Kiwanis Club, Senior Services, United Way, Hospice, Habitat for Humanity, VFW, Shriners, Red Cross, Salvation Army, Real Life Children’s Ranch, Historical Society, Main Street, The Chamber and Boy Scouts.  
- Recommendation: Consideration of SouthState Bank core values: local market driven, a long term horizon, world class service relationship banking and faith and family.
- Two $500 grants available

6. Delta Kappa Gamma International Society for Key Women Educators, Beta Nu Chapter
- Open to K-12 grade teachers.  
- Delta Kappa Gamma promotes professional and personal growth of women educators and
excellence in education.  
- Requirements: Project focus to enhance literacy, STEM, art, or humanities instruction.
- Four $500 grants available; two of the four will only be granted to Delta Kappa Gamma members.  
- Men may apply.        

7. Gay Carlton Physical Education Mini-Grant
- Open to any K-12 grade P.E. teacher
- Requirement: Focus on enhancing physical activity in the P.E. program.
- Five $200 grants will be awarded.

8. Glades Electric Cooperative, Inc. Math and Science Mini-Grant
- Open to K–12 grade teachers
- Requirement: to enhance math and/or science in the classroom.
- Four $500 grants and one $1,000 grant available

9. Jill Holcomb & Family Mathematics Mini-Grant
- Open to K-12 grade teachers
- Requirement: to enhance mathematics in the classroom.
- Two $300 grants available

10. Kiwanis Club of Okeechobee/Dick and Marge Blair Memorial Elementary Math Mini-Grant
- Open to 4-5 grade teachers
- Requirement: to enhance math in the elementary classroom.
- One $500 grant available

11. Kiwanis Club of Okeechobee Mini-Grant
- Open to K-12 grade teachers.
- Three $500 grants available

12. Okeechobee Battlefield Friends Mini-Grant
- Open to 4th grade Florida History teachers
- Requirement:  Okeechobee Battlefield Friends Mini-Grant
- Two $500 grants available

13. Sumner Engineering Mini-Grant – Innovative Technologies
- Open to 9-12 grade math and science teachers.
- Requirement: Project must foster increased student interest and participation in engineering or other physical sciences (STEM).
- One $500 grant available
 
14. Family Dentistry of Okeechobee “Smile Creator” Mini-Grant
- Open to K-12 grade teachers.
- One $500 grant available

15. Ken Kenworthy CTE Mini Grant
- Open to 9-12 grade Career and Technical Education (CTE) teachers
- One $600 grant available

16. Leslie Lundy’s Elementary Literacy & Career Explorations Mini-Grant
- Open to K-5 grade teachers for elementary literacy activity related to job/career exploration.
- Partnership with a business or company in some capacity.
- One $300 grant
 
17. Leslie Lundy’s Secondary Career Explorations Mini-Grant
- Open to 9-12 grade Career and Technical Education (CTE) teachers to focus on career exploration
- Partnership with a business or company in some capacity
- One $300 grant

18. New Hampshire Granite Dairy Mini-Grant
- Open to K-12 grade teachers.
- Two $500 grants available
 
19. Brennan Eye Care Mini-Grant
- Open to K-12 grade teachers for science, health-science or STEM activities.
- One $500 grant available

20. Dr. Christine Brennan Bishop Mini-grant
-Open for K-12 grade teachers to encourage kindness, good citizens or fellowship among peers.-
- One $500 scholarship

21. Okeechobee Cattlewomen Agriculture Mini-Grant
- Open to K-8 grade teachers and must create or take part in an agriculture-related project or field trip. This could include cooking, tours, gardens or animal project, etc.
- Two $500 grants available

22. Rotary of Okeechobee Mini-Grant
- Open to K-12 grade teachers
- Requirement: “Service above Self” project component
- “Service above Self” component examples; sharing project results/items purchased with another class or school, making something to share associated with the grant with an agency/family in the community.
- Four $500 grants available.

23. Seacoast Bank’s Community Giving Mini-Grant
- Open to K-12 teachers
- Seacoast Bank believes in supporting programs that empower our youth by providing opportunities for them to grow and fulfill their educations. They look to support activities and initiatives that provide resources for education and are asking teachers to do just that!
-Two $1,000 grants

24. Okeechobee Education Foundation Let’s Get Reading Mini-Grant
- Open to Elementary School Principals
- 4 custom Global Vending machines (1 per school) will be awarded
