Feedback Form for Homework Set #3 (LASNNY)
Thanks for doing your Homework Set #3! By now you've watched the video on Deconstructing White Privilege with Dr. Robin DiAngelo and completed the assigned readings on receiving critical feedback and how to be an accomplice in anti-racism. At this point, we invite you to answer the following questions to reflect on what you've learned and how it applies to your work at LASNNY.

All responses are completely confidential and anonymous!

This will probably take 10-30 minutes, depending on how thorough you want to be. There is no way to save a draft of your responses in this form, so if you can't do it all in one sitting please save your responses elsewhere and paste them in this form when you're ready.

Thanks, and we look forward to seeing you soon!

What does it mean to be white?
Dr. DiAngelo tells us that white people are socialized to see whiteness as a default, a generic, a non-trait that is devoid of race -- that race is something that belongs to other people and is usually associated with something bad or negative. This question is intended for all LASNNY staff, in light of your own racial identit(ies): When did you first become aware of whiteness? Can you remember and share your first impressions of whiteness or what it means to be white? How has your perspective of whiteness changed over time, if at all?
What's the difference between individual prejudice and a system of inequity?
Dr. DiAngelo explains the difference between individual prejudice and structural inequity. Try to describe the difference in your own words. (Hint: think about the examples she offers based on sex and race)
Nice people are racist, too.
Dr. DiAngelo highlights how the false equivocation of being racist and being a bad person has led to many nice white people refusing to go deeper into understanding white privilege and their role in perpetuating structural racism through complicity. Why is this an especially important point to consider for public interest attorneys, legal professionals, and legal support staff? How does so-called niceness serve white people, and how does it hold white people back from being effective anti-racists?
Ally vs Accomplice
What are 3 key distinctions between being an anti-racist ALLY and anti-racist ACCOMPLICE?
