•Scholarships will be awarded by a faculty/staff/student subcommittee.

•Three $2,500 scholarships are available each academic year.

•Scholarship awards will be made directly to a student's UMM Student Account and can be used for the approved international service-learning program related expenses only.
REQUIREMENTS OF RECIPIENTS
•Given the specific nature of this scholarship, recipients must meet with both the Study Abroad Advisor and the Coordinator of the Office of Community Engagement to discuss the student’s plan and review best practices of service-learning.

•In the fall or spring semester following their award, recipients are required to give a public presentation on the international service-learning work done with the scholarship. This is a specific event for scholarship recipients and former UMM Chancellor David Johnson generally attends.

•It is highly encouraged that applicants complete a reflection activity. This will enrich their experience and provide a record that will help in developing the presentation component.

SCHOLARSHIP ESSAYS
Agency/program *
Please describe the agency/program with which you will be serving. In your response, please address, to the best of your knowledge, the goals of the agency/program, the activities the agency/program oversees, how the agency/program is structured and how it is funded. Please also provide a website and/or contact information for your program.
Fit with academic and career goals *
Please explain how the proposed experience fits in with both your academic and career goals. Please include any requirements of your major that you will be able to meet and also discuss whether the program is credit bearing or not for credit.
Scope of project *
Service-learning projects work best when the volunteer work to be done and the goals of the work are well-defined. Please describe, in detail, what you will do, for how long, and what the goals of your work are. How will you know if you have met the goals of the project?
Pre-service training *
Service-learning projects require pre-service training in order to prepare students for doing positive work in the community. What pre-service training will you receive through the agency/program with which you will be working? Please note that your answer to this question will be used to assess whether the IPC will require you to complete additional pre-departure training.
Reflection *
Reflection is an important part of service-learning. Will there be structured opportunities for reflection through the program with which you are serving? If so, describe how the reflection will be structured. Journaling is highly recommended for all recipients, but you will not be asked to turn your journal in.
