Melanated Community Book Drive
Thank you for your interest in this year's Melanated Book Drive! This initiative is apart of our Community Cultivation programming which seeks to bring resources to the heart of communities in need. Community Cultivation experiences that aid people holistically restore themselves before, during, and after a natural, human, or systemic catastrophe. Cultivation of a community begins with sharing space where a person can teach, learn, heal, and gain access to culturally appropriate resources, and supplies. Supplies that will assist a person restore themselves, family, and community in a non-traumatic manner. Books are resources that assist in building a knowledgeable community. Knowledge written for and by people who are representatives of their cultural norms.
We will be providing the youth and adults of communities in Austin with books filled with characters and cultures that represent them. We are seeking to provide 200 books for adults, 200 books for teenagers, and 200 books for children. We would like books that will ignite youths passion to learn while allowing them to project themselves into stories.
