Thank you for your interest in serving as a member of the Karma Cat Rescue Society (KCRS) Board of Directors (BoD). Serving on the board is a rewarding experience and an opportunity for personal and professional growth. Completing this form will help you understand the skills and time/resource commitments of this leadership position. You may find it helpful to read through the entire application and Board Member Responsibilities before you begin filling it out.

This application will be kept confidential and on file at KCRS. Applications are reviewed by the BoD’s Nomination Committee to identify and evaluate potential candidates. All new members are elected by a majority vote of current board members.

Mission: The mission of the Karma Cat Rescue Society is to provide a safe and peaceful haven for homeless, abandoned, or abused animals. We will help decrease the number of cats and dogs being destroyed in kill shelters through the work of our foster, spay/neuter, trap-neuter-return, and education programs.


Vision: The vision of the Karma Cat Rescue Society is a world where every companion animal is respected, fed, warm, happy, and not in danger of being killed because it is temporarily homeless.


The values that guide all we do are:

Success: Effectiveness will be judged by the extent to which animal lives are saved and improved and by the positive experience of the people we contact.

Please acknowledge that you have read the following Board Member Responsibilities. 

A member of the Board of Directors agrees to participate in one 1-year term as a trial. A board member may serve two consecutive 2-year terms for a total of five years. Subsequent contracts are not guaranteed and are up for a vote with performance review after each term is completed. After serving five consecutive years, a board member must rotate off the board for a least one year.  

BoD members are expected to make a serious commitment to participate actively in board activities, including full BoD meetings, event attendance, fundraising activities, policy and leadership work, and committee meetings. Members should anticipate at least 4-6 hours per month. 

BoD members are expected to support the organization with a yearly donation. This can be donated individually throughout the year, or may secure support from family, friends, business contacts, etc.  

BoD members are expected to stay informed about relevant industry, leadership, and committee matters. They are prepared for meetings, upcoming topics of interest presented in meeting agendas, participate in relevant discussion prior to a vote, and review meeting minutes and reports. 

Participates in the advancement of the strategic plan of the rescue including fundraising and member recruitment.
