AOS 91 Summer School Registration Form 2022
Dear AOS 91 Parents/Guardians of Rising 1st-6th Graders,                                                                        April 4, 2022

Historically AOS 91 has offered Summer School and Extended School Year (ESY) services at each of the elementary schools. This summer we are moving toward a district-wide program in order to be more cost effective, foster friendships between students across our elementary schools, to provide equitable educational support and to offer full day programming for all four weeks of summer school!

At this time, we are prepared to service two cohorts:
~Students needing Summer School Services, entering grades first to sixth in 22-23 school year
~Students who currently have ESY services as part of their IEP, entering grades first to ninth

Summer School (students entering 1st-6th grade) and ESY (students entering 1st-9th grade) will take place at Trenton Elementary School:
     Monday-Friday, July 11th - August 5th
Morning sessions from 9:00am - 11:30am will be focused on literacy.
Afternoon sessions from 12:30pm - 3:00pm will be focused on science and math
Breakfast and lunch will be provided (free of charge)
Whole day options are available from 9:00-3:00 to include both sessions.

Transportation from the school your child attends to and from Trenton Elementary School will be provided. (Parents will be required to transport their children to and from the school their child attends.) Parents can also drop off and pick up children at the Trenton School.

The Summer School curriculum will be place-and project-based, with subjects being woven together under a new theme each week. Students will be placed in either a 1st-2nd (may have some 3rd graders) grade group or a 3rd-5th grade group. The four themes for this summer are:
     Inventors/Innovators
     Birds
     Explorers
     National Parks

Families are encouraged to fill out the registration form below, so that their child can participate in our district wide summer school. On the form, you will be asked to share which of the weeks your child is available. Then, we will review your child’s academic data & teacher recommendations to determine the number of weeks that we can offer your child. Please complete the registration form by Friday, April 15th. Registration confirmations will be emailed to families the week of April 25th.

Additional offerings will be available to current 5th-8th grade students and that registration information will be sent out in May. A preview of some of the programming we are working on: a partnership with HCTC to provide some Middle School Career Exploration opportunities but are unsure these will come to life this year. We are also partnering with the Southwest Harbor Public Library, IRW, YWCA & Maine Outdoor Schools to offer book groups and other education opportunities for middle school students. We will keep you informed as these options become available for registration. We also encourage 8th graders to participate in MDI Advantage (June 21st-June 23rd).

All K-8 students who have ESY services, as part of their IEP, will receive their services during AOS 91 Summer School dates. If additional dates are needed, special education staff will work with families to coordinate these. Services will be provided and/or supervised by a certified special education teacher. Depending on the time required for services, these students may be able to participate in either a half day or full day of programming. The ESY signup form will be released soon. The form attached is only for regular summer school, but if you would like to hold a slot for your child who will also have ESY you can fill out the options below.

If you have any questions, you may contact your child’s teacher, principal or either of us. The best way to reach us is by email ( cdagraca@mdirss.org or hayley.fenton@mdirss.org )

Happily,
Crystal DaGraca – Trenton Elementary Principal & AOS 91 Summer School Program Director
Hayley Fenton – Outer Island Principal & AOS 91 Summer School Program Director
